Paris - An Algerian Islamist organisation, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), has issued a call for action against France, which it describes as "enemy No 1", intelligence officials said on Tuesday.
"The only way to teach France to behave is jihad and the Islamic martyr," said the group's leader, Abu Mossab Abdelwadoud, also known as Abdelmalek Dourkdal, in an internet message earlier this month.
He was quoted as saying: "France is our enemy No 1, the enemy of our religion, the enemy of our community."
France was mentioned 15 times in the text and the Algerian government was also targeted, said the officials.
Nine people detained in a series of raids west of Paris on Monday are suspected members of the GSPC, officials have said.
They were being questioned for a second day on Tuesday at the headquarters of the DST domestic intelligence agency.
Interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy said on Monday the risk of terrorist attack in France is "at a very high level... There are cells operating on our territory".
The GSPC was created from a split in the Armed Islamic Group, the main force in Algeria's long insurgency, which was also responsible for a series of bombings in France in 1995.
Great, after the ass whippin' they get, we have to liberate them again.
If France does get hit, maybe some other European countries who are not on board with the WOT will wake up.
I don't hope that they get attacked, but if they do, I hope it serves as a badly needed wake-up call.
Should be amusing to see what all the sneering
French socialist have to say about this! How
will they show us their superior methods of
diplomacy at bringing peace between them and their
North African Muslim brothers?
I watch with rapt attention,
for thejm to show us the way...
This definitely disproves the old adage that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
I guess maybe those Islamic Terrorists aren't ALL bad, after all....
"Should be amusing to see what all the sneering
French socialist have to say about this!"
They will have no trouble coming up with the correct analysis. What is needed is to ask the Islamacists what the French are doing wrong and what they need to change in order to please them.
Unfortunately for the French, this progression does not have an end point. The Spanish will find out the same thing.
I hope France has enough white flags for its citizens.
This is interesting, if France should get hit we should sit back and warn them that they must "understand the underlying causes that make the terrorists hate the French so much." And block every attempt they make to do anything about it the entire way.

Apologies to any countries from the Islamic s--- list not mentioned.
The Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat is an Algerian terrorist group. Based on the history ( read A Savage War of Peace, by Alistair Horne), we'd have a lot of work to do to catch up with the French in Algerian eyes.
Good list, and concern about multiple attacks within hours or days of each other strikes me as appropriate. In a weird way the slaying of Van Gogh in Amsterdam sent a bigger chill up the European spine, and for a longer period, than the more horrendous Madrid train bombing. By European logic (excuse the oxymoron), Spain deserved it because they were engaged in Iraq. Those thinking this way did not, of course, take seriously the notion of a Caliphate, and that the Islamofascists really mean it when they say that Spain, properly, is part of greater Islam. Amsterdam was scary, therefore, because it struck counter to the entire European logic; plus it was hit or miss, an assassination.
My point is that should France get hit by terrorism - including by an assassination a la Amsterdam - the European mind will indeed be jolted. The tremors will last for months. Of course, this doesn't mean that the white flags won't come out - they will. The problem is that even the French won't know who to surrender to. A hit on France will be a very big deal - just as a hit on California will turn the U.S. in a mightier way than another on the E Coast.
None of this is to say that I wish a hit on anyone. But if Europe is going to take one, then France is certainly preferable to, say, Poland. And, as much as I hate to say it, if the U.S. has to take another hit, California is preferable to NYC because it will disrupt enormously the entire anti-war Left and Hollywood Left. Like the French, their logic will suffer so much even they will take notice.
"Round up the usual suspects"
Yup, somehow I don't see France going to Algeria to look for them.
In spite of their reputation, France, if hit, will not show mercy or PC when reacting. Hope they aren't hit but they would be an effective ally that has operatives through out the Muslim world.
I was joking, but thanks for the information.
I don't know that much about the Algerian War, but I do know the French were heavy handed.
