Rehnquist had a hand in his nomination.

Jack gets to bring the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the US to school for career day.

How incredible is that. Does he get to wear his work clothes?

This is a sobering thought, but Roberts may be the last Chief Justice of my lifetime. He's the first Supreme Ct. justice appointed who is actually younger than me. I wish him long life, a solid and impressive career, and may he guide the court and the entire judicial system back to its original intent.

Yeah, I've hardly got used to fuzz-faced police officers and already judges are younger than me!

Didn't they say "Jack"? Was the kid disruptive? Did I hear him holler during the swearing in?

Nah, they were referring to the day when John Roberts was selected to be the nominee earlier this year. Jack was slightly to the side of the podium doing some sort of dance for the cameras.

Rehnquist had a hand in his nomination.

You betcha. Rehnquist was his mentor and Roberts was Rehnquist's clerk for many years.

Yet, there are some here who worry that Roberts might be another Souter.

The oath he took sounded a lot like the one Cheney took back in Jan. Are they the same?

They all take the same "Oath Of Office".

My only criticism is that Roberts should have stayed the O'Conner replacement, then have Bush nominate a no nonsense conservative as the Rehnquist replacement. Would have stood a much better chance of success.

Please. The idea that there need be any similarity between a nominee and the justice he is replacing is newly-minted leftist hoo-hah. It was invented for the present circumstances; a sitting Republican President who has promised conservative nominees. At any future time if the situation becomes reversed, God forbid, this "principle" will go straight down the memory hole. So let us mock this transparently partisan and undemocratic canard, not enshrine it.

He'd have to be completely off his rails to be anything like Souter, and Souter is about as smart as a load of gravel.
