Several Blasts Occur Almost Simultaneously in Bali; at Least 19 People Killed

Last month during the week of 9/19/-22/05 an Al-Zawahri video tape was released. Not sure if there is a link yet. However, this is a holiday time for Australians and Bali is popular.

It's interesting that they went back to Bali... seems as if things have come full circle. Our time is either running out, or we are still doing an excellent job keeping the attackers away.

They went back to Bali because it is an international destination and the locals mix easily with the tourists. IOW nobody stands out. It was easy so they went there.

Our time has been running out since 911. Another attack is inevitable. The only question is size and spread. We're seeing the run-up. I just pray to God it's not the nuclear scenario, but I'm very much afraid it will be. That will be the cresendo. In the days and weeks ahead, we will be seeing more and more like the Sooners football game. Heads up, the ball is in motion.

Just got back from the mountains, last mountain man rendevous of the season. Just finished doing my final clean on my .50 Hawken black powder rifle ("Sugar") and had to check in. Busy weekend. If the AQ #2 man has signaled the long awaited Ramadam offensive, Bali would be an interesting place to start. However, the JI are a degree independent too.

The agency stressed that there is no risk to the general public. -------------------------------- Only people who have not been vaccinated and who had direct contact with the infant would be at risk, because the disease is transmitted through stools or oral secretions, said Health Department spokesman Buddy Ferguson. The vast majority of Minnesotans -- approximately 93 percent -- have been vaccinated, most as infants. ------------------------------------ "If you didn't have that kind of contact, you're not at risk," Ferguson said. "We're talking about health care workers who might have cared for the infant. We're talking about family members. From the information presently available, it appears as though the poliovirus identified in this infant is genetically related to the viruses used in the preparation of the oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV). OPV has been associated with rare cases of vaccine associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) in individuals who have directly received the vaccine and in those who have had contact with recently vaccinated individuals. In addition, there have been reports of cases of paralytic poliomyelitis associated with circulating vaccine derived polioviruses (cVDPV) where there has been a reversion to neurovirulence of the involved circulating vaccine derived virus. -------------------------------- With respect to the former situation (VAPPs), during the period 1980-1994, of 133 confirmed cases of paralytic poliomyelitis reported in the USA, 125 (94 percent) were associated with administration of OPV (annual mean: 8 VAPP cases) (6 were imported cases and 2 were indeterminate without a poliovirus isolation, and no history of direct or indirect contact with the OPV). Other information on the investigation that is of interest is environmental sampling of sewage in the geographical area where the case originated to know whether there is evidence of cVDPV in the general area. As the above articles clearly state, if one has been adequately vaccinated, the risk of paralytic disease from contact with a cVDPV is very low, and with a 93 percent vaccination coverage rate with IPV in Minnesota, unless the virus "enters" a pocket of susceptibles, the risk of further cases associated with this event is low. However, there are concerns about chronic infection of an immune-compromised host with resultant neurovirulence reversion of the virus and potential spread of VDPV in the community. What made me post the dolphin artlcle here on T.M. was, these dolphins aren't rescue animals. The added text I posted with the pictures say the Navy uses dolphins and sea lions to patrol our gulf, coastlines and vessels. They are part of the Shallow Water Intruder Detection System run by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 3.

Just made me think of the scuba diver pictures.

As for the trolls, they have been out on full force lately. Democratic Underground had some recruiting efforts or alerts or something to go after FR and a few other message boards. There were threads here about it; but I didn't follow them.

Fireworks Cause Panicked Calls in Capital

WASHINGTON — Hundreds of Washington, D.C., residents took cover in buildings, raced to outdoor balconies and made panicked calls to local police and fire departments Saturday night, unaware that the loud explosions they heard were from a fireworks display near the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

The noise, which sounded like machine-gun fire to some and like bombs or cannonballs to others, could be heard as far away as upper Northwest Washington and Falls Church, Va.

District of Columbia fire department dispatchers were deluged with calls from worried residents for more than an hour, said department spokesman Alan Etter. “They couldn’t count the number of calls,” Etter said. “They were swamped.”

District emergency officials, aware of the scheduled fireworks display, nonetheless sent out firetrucks as a precaution in response to the numerous reports of noise, smoke and haze, Etter said.

I hope this independent contractor is questioned regarding hiring practices.

I'm not sure if anyone has already posted this or not but there was a re-release of the September 2002 Ayman Zawahiri tape early yesterday. What was interesting about this tape is that it has English subtitles. The release was made on several boards and on the Ansar Jihad mailing list.

KFOR just reported an explosion in downtown Norman tonight. At this moment they do not know if it is in anyway related to last night's bombing. Maybe a link is up on KFOR. I'll check.

I just heard the explosion and I live about two - three miles from downtown. I didn't want to post anything because I thought I was hearing things but it rattled my window by the computer. I was there last night and heard the same type of explosion. Channel 9 showed the bomb squad taking away items from the apartment complex all day.

The head of the person's fraternity disputed David Boren that this person was depressed. No one seems to be buying into the theory of Boren that has been interviewed to date.

FBI is the lead agency and being assisted by the Norman Bomb Squad.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Revel. Been too caught up with "real life" to pay much attention to the news lately. I'm pretty sure I've heard 10/4 batted around as a potential date for many months now, but rarely do I care any more about specific dates since none of them ever pan out. However, I will be keeping an eye on things, especially given the OK suicide bomber and subsequent cover-up.

Reminds me of the time I had to take a urine speciman from my dog to the vet. We followed him around with a Dixie Cup attached to the end of a yardstick. My neighbors thought I had truly gone off the deep end.
