The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

I just read that BLOG carefully and I think the writer missed the most important point. He assumes that the spin was created to save OU's reputation and football season. I'll bet that David Boren is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations or has some important friends who are. They'll want this covered up as a Jihadi strike because they won't be able to continue as islamist apologists in that very conservative part of the country.

The Feds want this covered up so as not to cause a panic or backlash against the muslim community. Also so as to not showcase our vulnerabilities. The Jihadis have threatened to hurt our women and children.

Economic viewpoints to be considered: How many students attending college out of state (and paying those larger tuitions) will be brought to a college near home? THAT could cause a sea change shift in academic populations for the foreseeable future. That translates into some fairly BIG $$$ for at least some of the smaller but more prestigious colleges and universities and maybe some of the bigger ones too.

This goes a LOT deeper than football! There will be more of these attacks and it will soon enough become apparent that the Ramadan Offensive is underway. At some point the attacks will be "unspinnable," Although I try to never under estimate the power of liberal denial. But for the rest of us it's a matter of waiting for the main event.

I'm not a football fanatic. In fact I really ONLY care about two games the whole year: Alabama v. Auburn (the major southern rivalry) and Army v Navy. If Bama beats Auburn and Army beats Navy my annual record seems to show that my students have a marginally (just BARELY) easier year. I dunno why.

AD..good day to you, thanks for the pings to the OK incident and the blog is very enlightening. Just goes to show that no matter what the incident, the "powers that be" will only let out the info. to the sheeple that they deem necessary. Just one more reason to be prepared for anything. I saw info. on this bombing just this morning; as I often go on a self-imposed info. blackout on many weekends to spend time with my family. But my initial gut feeling from the sugarcoated report was that it was our first terrorist homicide bombing here on our soil.

I read somewhere that he was sitting on a bench. Could he have been unconscious? There just seems to be more to this. Also, I read that his fraternity said he was not depressed.

This is from Sharq al Awsat. Nothing terribly new but interesting to see the Arabic language Saudi press picking up on it... One of the British dailies has a summary of this today; this is the complete article from Sharq al Awsat.

'Al-Qa'ida' Advertises Job Vacancies on the Internet. Does Not Specify Salaries. Following 'CIA' Example, Made Knowledge of Arabic and English Languages a Condition

Following the example of the US intelligence (CIA) advertisements for job opportunities, a website close to "Al-Qa'ida" has announced it has several vacant jobs that include a compiler of the videoed and audio jihadist statements in Iraq, a compiler of audio materials from satellite channels that concern the fundamentalists in the world, foremost of them Palestine, Iraq, and Chechnya, and a linguistic examiner of the Arabic and English languages who is versed in their grammar.

Some of the jobs announced by "Al-Qa'ida" include a specialist in the production of videos and a compiler of public and important issues that are of interest for Muslims in general.

The "World Islamic Media Front" said on the fundamentalists' websites that its public relations department would follow up the applicants wishing to join and communicate with them through their private mail. "Al-Qa'ida" did not specify the proposed salaries for these jobs but said "every Muslim must know that his time does not belong to him but to this usurped nation whose sons' blood is being shed. Nothing in this world should supersede this action because what is an individual duty is a duty for him and others like him." The Front, "Al-Qa'ida" internet mouthpiece, added: "The condition for joining the staff is for the applicant for any of these jobs to seek what is best."

Thought I should post Johnny Jihad Lindh here as well for a comparison to Hinrichs III.

Your comparison is probably dead on. College students often commit suicide. This is the first time I've ever heard of one using the "JIHAD METHOD". In my opinion, there is no other way to describe it. It is what it appears to be. If the authorities called it for what it is, they would cause panic on college campuses across the country.

Feds Nab Three Illegal Aliens at Nuclear Power Plant

The Sierra Times ^ | 10/03/2005 | Jim Kouri

Posted on 10/03/2005 8:01:57 AM PDT by Rio

In the latest in a series of arrests involving illegal aliens at nuclear facilities, federal agents arrested three illegal aliens in Blair, Nebraska, on September 15 when they attempted to enter the outer secure area of the Omaha Public Power District’s Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station to perform contract work at the plant for the first time.....

Thank for the ping. I did see your post as I continued to read on. Do you think it's a matter of premature detonation or cold feet?

Must be a fine line between not wanting to scare people and warning them of the threat which may result in their death.

Personally I would err on the side of saving people from harm. Folks going to large events need to be VERY careful and use our TM guidelines for what to look for. I do wonder how this guy was dressed and what he used for explosives. Will they ever tell us?

Was not aware of the re-release of the 2002 tape. The discussion on the most recent new tape was regarding the quality and associated issues suggesting that the taping location had current equipment and was not a video-in-the-mountain-cave type of production.

I read somewhere that he was sitting on a bench. Could he have been unconscious?

I hadn't heard or read his position when he "went off." In any case, the body would have been moved some distance from point of detonation...well the pieces anyway. Unconscious? As in...ummmm DEAD DRUNK? He was a FRAT-RAT after all. That's another spin that is possible in the coming days if there is too much scrutiny placed on this.

I think from looking at his pic above we have another Johnny Jihad Lindh here.... and he had logistical assistance to assemble the bombs....that means he is or was part of a cell. How many other cells are on our college campuses? Are they set on a predetermined strike pattern or are they geared to a "GO CODE?" If so, I'd say it's been given.

Now, it could be JI acting independently... or it's part of al Qaida's coordinated sweep of the world. It would seem to make a difference where the orders came from, even if they are loosely affiliated.

Commentary I've looked at today suggests that JI is more independent than dependent. More details at:

Definitely a premature detonation. If he had cold feet he might still be alive...UNLESS somebody ELSE wired him into the bomb and set a boobytrap to prevent such a case.

Didn't mean to confuse - was just pointing out that another tape with English subtitles has been released.

I agree completely - the most recent tape was much much higher quality that the previous ones. Lighting was better, sound was better, and it was clearly indoors.

Zawahiri sure doesn't seem to be languishing in some cave somewhere.

I've got some thoughts on that tape posted on my blog from a few weeks ago if you want to look at it. It was definitely a step upward from his earlier ones.
