Good thing that my Pa goy the whole family a 2001 Excursion Limited with the Trailer-towing Package;
His only current regret is that he didn't opt for the 7.3 Diesel engine instead of the 5.4 gasoline V8.
Other than that, it's been a Dream vehicle.....and it even fits into our early-1970's-era car garage!

I have rarely seen such ANGER as I have seen here and on other sites as when SUV owners were being criticized for their gas guzzlers. That's because this is a free country and no one has any business criticizing anyone else for how they spend their money on LEGAL products.
I'm sure that excess consumption is damaging to the collective that the liberals imagine we live under. But we don't. We live in a free market. So p*ss off.

Next thing you're going to say is that I don't need the v-12 in my Mercedes even though it was cheaper than the v-8!
This is America, I don't particularly like the H2 but you've got a right to buy one even if you're single and you commute in it by yourself. I did finally ride in one and despite what looks like its enormous size, the interior was claustrophobic, luxurious but it seems to press in on me. It's like my old '76 280Z I had years ago. When you shut the doors, it was like a cocoon. Same thing with C3 Vettes.

I have a Diesel Excursion, it gets 15 to 19 mpg. I use it to tow two different trailers and haul a bunch of kids around.
It is really fun to drive, occupying near the maximum amount of lane space allowed by law.
It's less fun to fill up at $3.00 per gallon, so I now have a Prius.
One extreme to the other.
The Prius won't fit in the back of the truck as someone suggested, I already tried.
The Prius is good for a real 46 to 53 MPG.

I have a Tahoe and my hubby has a 2500 Silverado diesel he got with the employee pricing discount, finally got rid of the 1500. We haul a camper and trailer with both vehicles and are not about to change our hobbies for someone else. We ride dirt bikes, quads and have fun outdoors, camping. People can drive whatever they feel like, if they like their prius, fine. We love our SUV and truck.

Look, all I'm saying is that if you need one because of family size, etc..good for you..but in the final analysis, and I stand by what I said..in far far too many cases it's strictly a vanity statement made by people trying to keep up with the Jonses, then complaining about the price of gas..that's all I'm trying to say..

Gattari said the decision to quit making the Excursion at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville came about a year ago. She said the plant has shifted its focus to producing Ford's Super Duty trucks. "It was a business decision to end production," she said.<<
Gees, guys. This was a spin story.
They make more money on the F 150, F 250, F 350 and F professional vehicles. What kind of mileage does an F 350 Supercab get?

I agree with what you say. But it's a free country, let them have their vanity statements, they can b*tch about gas prices all day but maybe they should have bought something more reasonable.
When my wife needed a new car, I made her get an SUV, strictly from a safety standpoint. She didn't get an H2 though and we do use it to haul stuff. It's always nice to have a truck handy.

I guess if everybody quit buying baoats, RV's, horses, off-road vehicles, etc, they would be happier and the economy would be better off too. I was out at one of our local lakes yesterday, and saw plenty of power boats out buzzing around (vs about 4 sail boats...ours included). I'd say sail boats were out numbered by power boats by about 8:1.
These weren't the usual little "fishing boats"...I mean the 30-40' pickle nose, cigarette style, or twin engine monsters that really peeve the tree huggers off.
Marina gas was around $3.59/gal I noticed too.

But this is America where we can obtain what we damn well want based on our own personal needs.hear, hear!
And, of course, our personal ability to procure it.

Ford's decision to stop making the Excursion actually has nothing to do with high fuel prices. Rumors of its demise have been in the air for a long time, as sales of the Excursion have been in decline for almost five years now. Anyone in the market for an oversized SUV for practical purposes was more likely to buy a Chevrolet/GMC Suburban, and anyone in the market for an oversized SUV for "vanity" purposes was buying a Hummer.
