Being that anyone worth their salt buying a F-350 is getting the Powerstroke I would guess around 20 mpg driving down the road or pulling a horse trailer.

You're exactly right. It's no one's business what one chooses to own or drive but the owner. Too many people think we should all dress alike so we can be more like Mao. It's silliness otherwise.

Owning one of those is strictly a vanity statement..no one needs something that freakin big..

Nobody needs a house that is bigger than 1000 square feet. Nobody needs a TV that is bigger than 13 inches.

If everyone stopped buying those things that they don't need, our economy would drop dead and we would be stuck in a depression that would make the 1930's seem like a time of unprecedented prosperity.

I think with that attitude you've really signed on (8/23/05) to the wrong place. The socialist site is DU....it might reflect your view of the world better comrade. I own a Dodge Durango and it suits my purposes perfectly! I have absolutely no interest in traveling in an unsafe little box because you've declared that it's all I need.

Basically, yes. She sure wasn't going to get a Prius although I wouldn't mind having one.
I'm more worried about safety than gas mileage and it's not an Excursion and it gets around 20mpg when driven lightly. It's gets somewhat less when I drive it.

Have you ever taken five kids on a vacation?

What about a minivan? I am not bashing you- I am just cheap and decided that for our main vehicle (we are waiting for #4 in March) we would get a minivan, because I am cheap by nature and commute a little bit and couldn't stomach the gas required by a big SUV. I am considering a bigger SUV for our second vehicle in a few years but it will be driven minimally.

My friend who has an Expedition (per her husband's choice) is jealous of my minivan. I could never drive an Excursion because the only place I see them are in the snootiest yuppie enclaves. Plus, who the heck wants to park that?

Glad you have no anger.
I drive my American stationwagon and sedan.
They are both FORDS -- they rattle.

"I think the fact that the last Excursion is rolling off the line is a sign of how long Ford waited before it started actually addressing these issues," said Paul West, a spokesman for the Rainforest Action Network. The San Francisco-based group has campaigned for Ford to cut emissions and improve fuel economy.

"Ford didn't really address it because it wanted to do the right thing," West said. "Ford's addressing it because gas prices are skyrocketing and people are freaking out."

What a gigantic pant-load of BS!!!! Ford announced a year or two ago that '05 would be the last year of production for the Excursion. I don't recall why they were ending it, probably sales weren't where they expected them to be, but the price of gas DEFINITELY wasn't the cause!!!

This whole article is spin and crapola from the first sentence!!!

You mean things like actually having a use for them, Duh! I would love to evaluate your lifestyle and pick and choose the things that I think you "really need". Ever hear of free markets? Free agency? Do tell, how is someone that drives a small car 100,000 miles a year a better steward of the environment than someone that drives a "Gas Guzzler" 10,000 miles?

Lol.
Another excuse-maker.
Thanks for being so....illustrative of my point.

Actually, I think a TANK would be nice sometimes.
No excuses.

Watch the comeback I get from THIS. :o):o)

Is whining about money part of the package?
It seems to be. :o)

Or do I also have much to learn, o sage Grasshopper of the threads?

"Owning one of those is strictly a vanity statement..no one needs something that freakin big.."

And who decides how big is to big?
So what if it's a vanity statement, it's their money. Not mine, not your money, not Al Gore's money.
It's scary how people will so quickly want to dictate what others do in this country.
I personally feel that many SUV's are wasteful and vain, but I wouldn't dream of trying to force my views on others.
There are things that I do that are vain and wasteful but I really don't want to see us all wearing Chairman Mao outfits and all thinking alike.

Tell that to a family of 6 trying to fit into a Prius. Tell the 6'5', 250 lb. guy that he has to buy a Prius or some other small car. Explain to the guy pulling the trailer with your household goods in it (because he is kind enough to help you move) that his tow vehicle is strictly a vanity statement.

Whatever you do though, DON'T tell the guy who invited you to go out on his boat with him that his tow vehicle that allowed him to take you and your family out for a day on the lake on his 25' boat is a vanity statement.

You and your family may end up swimming back to shore.

A few thread that bring out the anger are: Prescription pain medicine( never tell a conservative he does not need the Oxy ), SUV's( I am always amazed at the pretzel logic used to justify owning one of the beasts. ), Sean Hannity( or is it Vannity ). Illegal Immigration ( I am leading the charge in this topic ). I am sure others have their own FR experiences with threads. Oh yea, I forgot Abortion, and Terri.

Five kids? Who needs five kids? There aren't enough resources for five kids. It's population suicide! We need to be more like China, one kid only. Then the SUV's would go away.

:-)
