Take a look at some of the "bushbot" pictures posted.
There is a decided lack of both sanity and maturity among these losers.....and they're showing it to the whole world and not the least bit embarrassed by it.
I'm sure this woman is a good choice. The anger of the usual suspects makes me even more positive of that.
btw, the attack that Bush picked a 'crony' is a direct leftist line.
Check back on this thread, see who used that line, and know that it's a DNC talking point. Gives you a pretty good idea of which side they're on.........
Thank you for a thoughtful, well reasoned post. It does give me some solace; however, I take issue with "the law firm made me do it." One, I don't think it's true. Two, if it's true then she has no spine.
The off the record statement confirms my suspicion that she is an intellectual lightweight.
This is like saying that two people who love to play golf are likely to produce similar policy decisions. Or two people who decided to be lawyers. Or two people who decided to move to New Mexico.
And that's leaving aside the consciousness of her singlehood. Do you realize that if every man and woman in the country married -- every average Joe, every nut, every homosexual, every heterosexual -- there would still be millions of single women?
Regardless, there's no logic in what you're saying. "Singleness" is a broad category, encompassing all sorts of people for all sorts of reasons, and to infer policy decisions from it stretches credulity.

I am curious to know: how many of you good folks thought Roberts was good, but give a thumbs down here?
I was not on the Roberts bandwagon. There seemed to be better choices. His gay pro bono work still gives me the creeps. But, the fact that he was a Rehnquist pall bearer was, I think, a pretty strong statement. And I never doubted his intellect (though I still worry about his ideology). So I am not in the pro-Roberts, anti-Miers camp.
Seems to me there has been a SEISMIC shift with this pick. Even the Roberts supporters - and I think that was most here at FR - are almost unanimously against this pick.
Who all is in the pro-Roberts, anti-Miers camp?

Miers has been a member of Valley View Christian Church in Dallas for 25 years, where Hecht has been an elder. He calls it a "conservative evangelical church... in the vernacular, fundamentalist, but the media have used that word to tar us." He says she was on the missions committee for ten years, taught children in Sunday School, made coffee, brought donuts: "Nothing she's asked to do in church is beneath her." On abortion, choosing his words carefully for an on-the-record statement, he says "her personal views are consistent with that of evangelical Christians... You can tell a lot about her from her decade of service in a conservative church."
Let me make it clear. I don't like the fact that she contributed to Al Gore's campaign at all. But it was almost 20 years ago now. If the article cited above is true, then perhaps she is a changed woman.
I am disappointed. But not in her per se. I'm disappointed because yet again, Bush selected someone who does NOT have a clear record of conservatism. This is a golden opportunity, not only because it's the Supreme Court we're talking about here, but because the Dems simply could NOT stop ANYONE Bush nominated. They could hem and haw, but in the end they would loose, they will loose. But for some reason, apparently, Bush didn't want to fight that very worthy fight, and it WOULD have been a worthy fight, because it would have shown the entire country exactly how obstructionist and radical the left really is, and energized his base for the '06 elections!
Now we're all left with a feeling of just being a SPECTATOR in our own government, instead of a participant!
On top of all that, to truly, TRULY find out how good Robers and Miers are, we have nothing but to wait for their first vote. And by then, it's a bit too late to change the mind, isn't it?

Scott McClellan is on tv now defending Ms. Miers. "She's a leader in the ABA." Well, another reason not to keep her. The ABA defends the judiciary, not the rule of law.

Tom Delay is another Texan but note that he's not able to give his opinion at this time.
Miers is single and very close to her family. "Republicans and democrats suggested Miers."
I would be surprised if Bush does not get another nomination.
Given the trend to appear to replace like with like (or even left of like), that's not exactly encouraging.

Then share with us, o enlightened one. All you've done today is rant that she, as a conservative Texas Democrat, gave money to Bill Clinton's campaign. And she has since become a Republican.
I know that she's not nearly as good as Luttig or Jones, or JRB, and that she's not what Bush promised us.
I don't think those candidates would have gotten through. IMO this nominee needed to be female because of RINOs like Collins and Snowe. And JRB would have been too conservative for RINOs and Dems. You act like all the GOP votes in the Senate are conservatives.

I was initially on the fence with Roberts, but with a more-thourough research, I came on board. Dunno if I would have made him Chief Justice, though.
As for Miers, there appears to be nothing further down to suggest that she won't be another Souter, and a lot on the surface to suggest that she will be Souter's soulmate.
