Well I sure hope you are right, and I do respect your opinion very much.

My experience with Bushes and stealth nominees just haven't been that great over past decade or so.

I noticed that MSNBC.com states: "Bush picks an insider" while FOXNews.com simply says: "Bush picks Miers". Gives me the impression he might have made a decent choice if the MSM is already trying to sway the issue.

This is another masterstroke (and unexpected) by Bush.

I hope you're right. We'll see how she does before the committee.

You are not reading clearly. The Dallas Bar Assn and the Texas Bar Assn are NOT part of the ABA.

I, for instance, am required to be a member of the Maryland Bar Assn in order to practice in the federal courts. However, I resigned in disgust from the ABA 20 years ago, and have never looked back. There is NO connection between the ABA and the state and local bars.

This is very disappointing. Why didn't Bush appoint a solid conservative who has experience ala Michael Luttig? I am sick of these stealth nominees, particularly when they seem to be unqualified. We have several tried and true conservative judges with plenty of experience and he makes this appointment?

Has Bush been sniffing the air from Kennebunkport Maine? I am beginning to think that I voted for Kerry lite in 2004.

Maintaining balance means we lose...we only have 2 real conservatives there now, 1 leaning that way, 2 moderates and 4 liberals

Agreed. She is an impossible nomination. But that's the greatest part! This is Bush's attempt to screw the dems HARD by making them shoot down a nomination they gave him! Bush should be ridiculed for this choice. The problem is, so will the democrats be if they do not prevent her approval. Now they are in an uncomfortable position indeed.

This is a wedge between the dem senators and THEIR OWN voters. If they allow confirmation, they are guilty of that in the eyes of the dem voters, and we get our nominee approved. If they block confirmation, then the next nominee is a Jurassic Conservative (RARRR!) and the democrats have already used up their "reasonable" objections. They can't block the second one. The genius is that they are hamstrung on the FIRST one, too!

ROVE, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!

Or maybe it was just a bad week for GWB to stop sniffing glue.

Kay Baily Hutchison is on Fox now praising her.

I find it interesting that her undergraduate degree was in mathematics. This indicates someone who is trained in logic.

I'm more than aware of that.

That's my point.

From where I see things right now, it looks like we lose with this nomination.

I hope Miers proves me wrong.

Powder..patch..Ball FIRE!

The AP says, Miers is leading the White House effort to help Bush choose a nominee to the Supreme Court.
Yikes.

Excuse me... Wasn't Dick Cheney helping pick the VP for President Bush? Didn't he turn out to be the best we could have gotten???

Very disappointed by the nomination. The "stealth" pick may be needed if the Senate was Democrat run, but there are 55 Republicans. Show some leadership, d-mnit. Use that majority.

Janice Rogers Brown or Edith Jones would have been better women picks.
