Self-esteem or confidence is not inherently a negative. A person who thinks he has no worth is not usually a good contributor to his family, community or society at large. The mistake is in how self esteem is gained. It should be earnned through hard work and learning self-discipline or it can be handed to one on a platter. The first kind is genuine and part of a strong character; the second is deceptive and more likely to be destructive.

My less-than-important take on Ms. Miers' writing is that she views personal investment by everyone in those around them and not expecting the government to do so. We'll see.

WHy on Earth would be be purposely putting "one over" on Conservatives? Has everyone here lost their minds?

She (Miers) uses the fuzzy, imprecise, and lightweight phraseology of a social worker. I get the sense that she doesn't really connect with her ideas and express them so much as she vaguely senses their outlines and emotes them.

There is wisdom in that observation. It is the inescapable nature of the female creature to attach their emotion with decision making. Some just hide it better.

This is also partly a feminized male problem with liberalism in men. The male has been steadily feminized over the past few decades.

A lot of it has to do with men being feminized by smoking pot and using drugs, feminization of the male role in sexual relationships with pornography among other things, that for the purposes of brevity, I will omit...

Many of his supporters here have given the reason: He wants to avoid a fight with the Democrats.

If nothing else, Bush does what he wants to do. Cheney gave the code over Rush's show today. The code word was "trust." And trust I'm doing.

This is a blue moon or something... The nominee is viable, and will likely prove a superb choice when viewed in retrospect.

"Bush knows this woman well, better than some of the people on this site who are calling him a RINO; I trust him."

People on FR use the term RINO in exactly the same easy and abusive way race baiters use the term "Racist".

I immediately distrust anyone who tosses the phrase 'lack of self-esteem' around as if it were the core problem in all of life's evils.

Good point to bring up.

imho, self esteem is one of the root causes. The problem with social experimentation, and the democratic liberal answer, is to throw money at it, which in reality does nothing good for the self esteem, only makes people better moochers.

To give them the opportunity to grow mentally and spiritually, as well as economically, you have to -to quote a well known person-teach them to fish.

The teaching of "how to fish" will do more wonders for the self esteem than boatloads of fish heaped on them.

I am a supporter of the 2A, and I exercise my right everyday (CCW). However, I think if you need to tow the weapon, maybe it should require a license. After all they do require a CDL for large trucks.

Self-propelled is OK.

An appointment of this magnitude should not be left to choice.

Some people, but way too many. I find it simultaneously amusing and disturbing that when people who are in the know complain that Harriet Miers is an unknown quantity, some here are convinced that Bush has sold out and all is lost.

I suppose if he is going to dup the Dems he will take some of our side too; I hear poker is his game.

Hi CN18F-

She isn't quite in her twenties, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) nominee Julie Myers is only thirty-six years of age. It might be a little off-topic, but didn't the agency sound better when it was known simply as INS?

One better be a good manager to handle 20,000 employees and a $4B budget.
