From the Oklahoma Daily story >>>
“It’s considered very Middle Eastern, the way (Hinrichs) killed himself or tried to kill others,” (Barakat) said.

In the words of an old Dixie Chicks song, "There's your trouble..."

"There was no problem whatsoever with it as long as it wasn't video."

Gotta protect those video publication rights. Priorities, ya know.

"College kids dont want their backpacks searched... "

I have tickets to a another Big 12 football team and backpacks are a big no no. Always have been at a football game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like nothing new here
Nope, links have been updated to give mainstream media confirmations of several items that were unsourced yesterday. One example is the News 9 report that an off-duty police officer who had his suspicions raised by Hinrichs' behavior at the feed store
Joel "Joe" Henry Hinrichs III raised the suspicions of a Norman feed store manager and an off-duty Norman police officer Sept. 28 when he tried to buy the type of fertilizer used in the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.

The off-duty officer, who just happened to be in the store, was concerned enough about Hinrichs’ demeanor that he jotted down his license tag number and called the police department to check his identity, officials said.

"Normal protocol is for that officer to submit an intelligence report when he comes back on duty," said Lt. Tom Easley, spokesman for the Norman Police Department. "My understanding is that when the officer did return to work, he did submit one, but that was after the fact."

The bomb had already gone off.

If that isn't a mistake, and Boren is attending a mosque -- we've got yet another problem in Norman and another dimension to this scenario.

"The bomb had already gone off."

Well, add another one to my list of dawdlers who contributed to this ... no report was filed by this off-duty police officer until after the fact. I smell CYA.

Yep, it's Henrichs. Sorry.

Original reports had him attending a particular mosque with extremist ties. The understanding now is that he was attending a mosque, but not that particular one.

And the President didn't mention it during his speech this morning.

I guess it only matters to us in fly over country.

Yep, the off-duty cop noticed the odd behavior on Wednesday the 28th of September. The bomb went off Saturday evening.

Is it normal for cops to have 4-day weekends?

LOL, it's like we're teleported back to some alternate universe between presidential elections, isn't it?

Until people start dying in massive amounts. Then our wonderful government moves in, declares martial law, suspends habeas corpus, and finally "protects" us.

Police have days off, too. But, he would have been highly credible to any dispatcher had he just called it in, right then and there. If it was odd and disturbing enough to have taken note, and copied the tag number, it was odd and disturbing enough to call it in at that time. Day off be damned.

I was feeling hopeful that our guys were on top of it yesterday, and even had begun to believe that they had the little idiot under surveillance, but now I've got a sinking feeling again.

"suspends habeas corpus"

I'm living in the only state that has never suspended the writ of habeas corpus, even during the Civil War. I'd imagine that that wouldn't be an easy thing to do, here at least.

I appreciate the thread. It's easy to follow. Several comments:

Your recap implies "the ingedient" TATP is not common in the United States. In fact, the source document says the ingredients of TATP are common househould items. It's usage, however, is uncommon in the United States. I think that's a significant distinction.

That several people were questioned shouldn't be interpreted, absent more information, as meaning much of anything. My understanding is that the relationship between these people (other than the roomate) was that they lived in the same apartment complex. Given the roomate was Pakistani, it would only make sense these Muslims would have known Heinrich ("our friend Cheeba's weird roomate"). That doesn't mean they had any involvement.

Why would these guys have stuck around if they were involved in a plot with Heinrich? Whether he blew himself up or someone detonated him remotely, accomplices living in the same complex who knew him would likely have scattered after such an incident. Perhaps they figured it looked sufficiently like a not-so-old fashioned suicide that they weren't at risk. More likely, they weren't accomplices.

"our friend Cheeba's weird roomate"

That would hold up if it weren't for several reports of bomb making materials, ammonium nitrate and Jihadi literature in the dorm room. Don't forget, that was Cheeba's dorm room as well.

Thanks, it wasn't meant to be a thread to end all threads but rather a simple thread, with links, to what we positively know about Hinrichs as of right now.
