Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world."

What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. 

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. 

What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. 

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

Rate  Any of the ranks within the Navy or Coast Guard enlisted structure.

RATE  remote automatic telemetry equipment

RATEL  radio telephone

Rate of Fire  The number of rounds fired per weapon per minute

Rat F***ed  To be seriously torn apart or rifled through.  Originating in Vietnam when cases of C-Rations (Rats) would be gone through in the process of transporting them to the front.
 
Ratline  An organized effort for moving personnel and/or material by clandestine means across a denied area or border.
 
RATO  rocket assisted take off
On Aug. 12, 1941, the first Air Corps rocket-assist takeoff was made by a Wright Field test pilot, Capt. Homer Boushey, using a small civilian-type Ercoupe airplane. Subsequent refinements of this technique were made for assisting heavily-loaded airplanes in taking off from limited space. This technique is still used whenever needed.  More here!

You're forgiven. But have there been lots of "your" stories that I didn't know were yours. I always knew "someone" had to do them, but NO ONE said THEY were doing them. Do you get credit for the stories when the credits roll at the end? I can stay for them. LOL!

Hmmmmm.....I wonder what makes a story worthy of the reporter telling it? Do you have a story of some sort mostly every day, whether you report or the anchor reports?

Depends on whether it's a new thing or whether it's something that happens farily often as to whether I put a voice to it or the anchor just reads some script over my video
