Most of those probably belong to illegals driving without a license - at least that what I hear down here in San Diego County from some of my LEO friends. So many are getting caught in these roadblocks that one state senator/illegal apologist, Gil Cedillo, wanted to pass a law earlier this year making illegal drivers exempt from state impoundment laws. Didn't go anywhere, but that is how some of our Mex..., er, CA representatives think.

I'm telling you, if they would just put cameras in everyones' houses and cars, we could prevent almost all crime!

It is coming to that, I'm telling you!

I have often wondered what would keep them from using our TV(Instant on) as a microphone, and decided that in fact there was nothing that prevented them from doing just that.

There is no safe place, get used to it.

Here's a guy whose tagline says he'll defend the constitution but then says he has no use for the Bill of Rights.
These people actually do exist and some of them think they are on the conservative side.
Probably believes freedom comes with responsibility when the definition of freedom is the absence of responsibility.
Why don't you take your sense of superiority over to DU?
No other sentiment expressed on this site angers me more than people who think its OK to be subject to constant, random search because they "have nothing to hide."
If nothing else, I want to get where I'm going in the time I alloted to the ride, barring accidents. I rarely book sufficient time for intermittent totalitarianism.

It is public knowledge that this does exist

So people who work hours different than you should be the ones to bear the brunt of fishing expeditions?

His use of "comrade" implies that statement was meant as sarcasm.

No other sentiment expressed on this site angers me more than people who think its OK to be subject to constant, random search because they "have nothing to hide."

He's mocking them as holding communist values, and rightly so.

It's sometimes hard to discern the sarcasm, I've made the same mistake.

They're working on a thing called a telescreen right now. Welcome to 1984

The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it, moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live -- did live, from habit that became instinct -- in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized.

I wonder how far this technology is from reality.

Just watch any TV show that relies on technology as part of the plot. If those ideas have occurred to writers, then we can hope that some of our government spook people have thought of them too.

I would suppose the extreme boredom of our home would repel any thinking person. That, however, does not affect robots, so who knows. :)

six people were booked on suspicion of driving while under the influence, he said. Others were booked for unspecified violations.

Like resisting detainment? Everybody is guilty of something, unless your in their gang.

Under what condition are there warantless searches?

Threat of life and knowledge of an ongoing crime seems to be two I can think of. Those are pretty good reasons.
