I've picked them wrong all postseason. I thought that it would be the Sox in Five. They SWEPT the 'Stros instead.

CONGRATULATIONS WHITE SOX! I vote for a parade down Halstead, ending at Schaller's Tap, rather than down Michigan Avenue myself!

I chose not to post that pic. I know it's supposed to be a cultural thing, but . . . it's too gay.

Oh, BTW, Ozzie, you are managing for CHICAGO not "VENEZUELA!" A little of that shout-out-to-the-home-country is OK, but remember who you are playing for.

"South Texas Railmen" was the reported winner, and the ballpark reflects that Old West theme.

Never heard that before, but then I'm not a huge baseball fan and don't follow the events closely.

Me and the hubby watched the whole game(both of us born and raised in Chicago, but now living elsewhere)....we are both from the north side of Chicago, and were always Chicago Cubs fans...but we also loved the White Sox...I just dont understand any animosity between White Sox fans, and Cubs fans...after all, they are both Chicago teams, cheer for the city....

We were thrilled with the Chicago White Sox win...I watched the 1959 world series White Sox loss when I was a tricky little teenager....had to wait until now, that I am nearly a tricky senior citizen to see them finally win the world series...but patience is a virtue, and the wait was worth it, and all the sweeter...

Congrats to the White Sox...I sure hope my dad, my mom, and my little brother all now with the Lord, were watching the game, on the big TV in the sky...

andysandmikesmom, you said it PERFECTLY! This is just what I've been thinking about and wanting to say!

I'm a native North Sider, too, so the Cubs have always been my first loyalty, naturally. But I've always cheered for the White Sox, too--for decades--and I've gone to a lot of their games, as well. The Cubs are my National League team, the Sox are my American League team. They're both my Chicago baseball teams.

Now I don't mind a good-natured, friendly rivalry, not at all. But I don't like it when it turns nasty.

I think there are fans on both sides of town who have a negative caricature of the fans on the other side. The stereotype some Sox fans have of Cubs fans is that they are not real baseball fans, that they don't know or care about the game, that they're just a bunch of Yuppies who come out to party in the park. Now there may be some of that (especially since 1984), but I know firsthand that is not the case for most Cubs fans.

Conversely, the stereotype some Cubs fans have of Sox fans is that they are paranoid drunk hooligans with an inferiority complex, who define their existence by their hatred of all things Cub. I certainly hope and realistically think that is not the case with most Sox fans.

This could be a teachable moment for Chicago, when the city comes together. I'm a North Sider and a lifelong Chicago baseball fan who is cheering like crazy for the Sox this year. I hope the South Siders will return the favor in 2008, when the Cubbies win the Series for our every-century '08 championship! "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one." :-)

So here is my saying for the day:

ONE CHICAGO! CHICAGO WON!

Now I'm gonna post some photos of this great day in Chicago!

You post #789 said it all, and said it perfectly...

Sure hope your dream for the Cubbies in 2008, does come true...that would be so great for the city...I would love to see Mr. Ernie Banks, out at such a game, cheering on his beloved Cubs..

Thanks for the pics, which followed...they were great...I have been away from Chicago for soooo many years now(almost 28 yrs now), and have been back only once...but I sure would make it back there, if the Cubs ever did get into the world series...again, thanks for the pics...I always love seeing pics of Chicago, and its wonderful people...

Astro's Lament Tonite:

"Couldn't Get Ahead of Ol' Freddy Garcia"

Congrats to all long-suffering Chicago baseball fans on the sweep by the Sox. I had them picked to win it in 6, and with the tight play, it could have easily gone the distance. Last night's nail-biter was one of the best defensive duels seen in a Series.

It's too bad we don't have a chance to catch MLB action in the old home town.

"Hope the cops in Chicago are ready for the rioting Sox fans...the worst fans in baseball....not me sayin it but most other ballplayers."

Sure, sure "...most other players." You should get a job the the NY Times with writing such a generality.

BTW, there was no riot in Chicago. As at matter of fact, the cops made a comment on how quiet it was.

Looks like you should stay out of Chicago...we are, after all, nothing but knuckle-gragging Neanderthals.

Nice thought but it will never happen. Part of being a Chicagoan is to back either the Cubs or the Sox. Its like voting in a primary election, you walk in the polling place and they ask you which ballot do you want, Democratic or Republican. Same thing when you are born in Chicago, the doctor asks the mother Sox or Cubs. Both are decided at birth(sarc)..Appreciate your effort to bring both together, blessed are the peacemakers.

The entire city of Chicago got to party once again since Chicago Bulls win in 1993 ! The mood is even more festive because you have something that didn't happen since 1917. Very few people are still alive who remember this.

this Houston team was good, very good.
Very true, all four games could easily have gone the other way.
