"Let's see the media try to sink the first African American woman appointee to the SCOTUS!" What, you're saying there will be no nasty, hateful, affirmative action jokes about how she only got the nomination because she's a woman AND black? The howlers are also hypocrites then.

We won. You lost.

You haven't won anything. As for who and what has been lost, you and your reactionary cohorts aren't bright enough to get the half of it.

Listen to the talking heads this morning. You won't hear what I hear, I know. But try to pay attention to the precedent that's been set here. You people have set the Constitution and the founder's vision on its head.

Now only a very narrow range of people will ever be considered qualified for the court. They must have degrees from Harvard, Yale or one of the other elite law schools. They must have academic and/or work experience in one specific area of the law. Never again can a "common" man or woman be considered for the court. What I mean by that is someone who has come up through the world most of us live in.

You and your ilk disgust me more than I can possibly say.

You nailed it.

But nobody here can see that right now.

And I doubt they'll be behind the next pick either.

Lord, I hope you're wrong on that.

We'll never know if it was 'disastrous' EV. We will never know if Miers would have been the one to swing the country back to the Constitutional role of the Courts. We will never know if she would turn out to be another Clarence Thomas (whose record was not clear when he was nominated).

This woman vetted the very judges that everyone says will be better than she.

I am praying that this is not a pyrrhic victory for the conservative cause.

The haters here are gloating, but soon they will be attacking again, because they are programmed to never be satisfied. They hate Bush, and it will show up again very soon.

This has been one of the most disgusting things I have ever witnessed.

Congratulations.

If the "prize" is seeing people like you leave the GOP, threaten away--I bet we'll all lose a lot of sleep over that. Maybe a wink, total. We wouldn't lose anything, because the only time you RINOs 'fall in line' for conservatives is to screw us on close votes in Congress and beg for handouts from your RNC pals. We'll get along fine without you RINO booby prizes. I don't know a soul around here who misses Lowell Weicker.

LOL.

The farthest south I've ever been is Georgetown.

I guess I need to brush up on my regional dialects.

" Miers was/is a true conservative"

That's arguable. No doubt you've read some of her writings...

Terrifically observant and well said.

I think a hurry-up offense is always risky and it certainly didn't work in this case, partially because the team wasn't really paying attention to the ball, because they got distracted by the uniforms of the other players.

We wanted a fight more than we wanted results. I am just praying that we were not penny wise and pound foolish on this. And we won't be regretting it in a few months.

RATS are likely to defeat Santorum next year anyway. We lose one Senate seat... it's worth it to get Rick on the USSC for life.

Remember that we have people on here that would vote for Hillary in the recent Freeper poll. Some of the hotheads on here do not represent conservatives because they are bent on destroying the Republican Party for their 3rd party aspirations. Not going to happen.

Freepers are NOT representative of what I see in the grassroots conservative movement here in OK. We elected Dr. Tom Coburn so I would say that we are one of the more conservative states. We can agree to disagree with the President on something, but we are not going to cut our nose off to spite our face by getting nasty and calling the President or his nominee names. That's childish along with the Freepers who say they are going to leave Republican Party and not support the President. Then we have those that will support the President 100% of the time which I find hard to comprehend. I think a lot of us can agree to disagree on the President's actions without becoming disagreeable. Some of the spin I have seen by both sides is flat out stupid.

This is an internet site and people can say what they want -- how do we know who most of these people are? We don't! We cannot look up most of their voting records because there are only a few of us who people know our real names, etc. That means anyone can say what they want and we don't know if they are spinning or not.

I did not comment on this nomination because frankly I didn't have enough information and wanted to have the Senate Judiciary hearings. Was impressed with the Roberts nomination, but this one did not have the same affect and I wanted to get more information.

IMHO this has NOT split the grassroots -- name calling doesn't work and I have seen it on both sides of this one. Just like the ones going around with "we won, we won" -- IMHO the nominee withdrew in the best interest of this President and the Republican Party. How you handle victory tells a lot about a person -- going around shoving it doesn't say a whole lot for the person. Same with the people on the other side handling defeat while continuing to snipe doesn't solve a thing.

My advice to a lot of Freepers is to GROW UP and quit the sniping both ways. You don't have to agree with the President 100% of the time but when it comes time to be in the trenches, get out and work to elect more conservatives like Dr. Coburn, George Allen, Sam Brownbeck and others instead of sniping about what you don't like. Agreeing with someone 100% of the time even if they are wrong hurts a person's credibility IMHO.

My two cents as someone that has not been involved in these flame wars this time around.

I think you're right.

If the Republicans in the Senate don't want this fury directed their way then they will toe the line. If they are foolish, they will not do so and suffer the consequences next year.

Lindsey on FOX looking depressed. LOL The "gang of 14" just had a defeat by hands of the American people.

You are pitiful. There is no one that cares one hoot about the religious affiliations of Supreme Court Nominees.

It isn't about how the nominee prays, it is how they THINK

..but it can never be a good thing to air our grievances (within the Party) in public for our enemy to use and abuse Sometimes we win converts when we speak up about important issues. Some of these food-fights get intense and the opus threads break out. We generally come back and reason with one another after the fur flies.

What has gone on here is nothing short of evil.

LOL!! In case you haven't noticed they're politicians. They get into office by making attacks on each other's character. What? You don't honestly believe the majority of the citizens of the respective states vote for the leaders by listening to what a candidate has to say do you? They listen to what the other guy has to say about the candidate and then make an 'informed' decision based on the 'vile attacks' from the other guy.

With all due respect... having a constructionist on the Court rather than yet another tyrant is worth far more than an anonymous friend can ever be.
