You think you are the big winners. Congratulations. . Until then, go pound sand. Your big victory was getting a woman to withdraw in order to save the Party.

You're entire post was wrong. You and your crowd bungled it.

And I am in no mood to listen to those from the wrong crowd right now, that continue to say the wrong, incorrect things.

I heard that several people who "should" have been nominated decided against it. Which is why we had Miers to begin in the first place.

Luttig might be one of the "Thanks, but NO thanks!" people.

You haven't won anything. As for who and what has been lost, you and your reactionary cohorts aren't bright enough to get the half of it.

We reminded Bush who brung 'im to the dance, we did.

Listen to the talking heads this morning. You won't hear what I hear, I know. But try to pay attention to the precedent that's been set here. You people have set the Constitution and the founder's vision on its head.

Nonsense. Unless now it is unConstitutional to express your opinion to the President.

Now only a very narrow range of people will ever be considered qualified for the court. They must have degrees from Harvard, Yale or one of the other elite law schools. They must have academic and/or work experience in one specific area of the law. Never again can a "common" man or woman be considered for the court. What I mean by that is someone who has come up through the world most of us live in.

Absurd. Just get us a conservative who doesn't write like an idiot.

You and your ilk disgust me more than I can possibly say.

I'm an ilk now? COOL!

it's worth it to get Rick on the USSC for life.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to need a well developed judicial philosophy, in writing.

Since Santorum has openly spoken out about overturning Roe V. Wade, you realize he has NO chance of even being nominated, don't you?

Would that be the same constitution that starts with "We the people of these United States....?

"Can you tell I am mad? These pundits aren't getting a dime from me! Ever!"

Good for you! Be tough!

Send the money to people who supporterd Miers, instead! You know, like Harry Reid!

Don't give up now! You and the last remaining 17 Miers supporters should keep fighting, demand nothing less than that Bush re-nominate Miers - especially now that she's shown herself to be pro-abortion and pro-affirmative action! Master Reid expects nothing less!

I think we have enough Senators to force a vote and go nuclear if needed. My Senator Coburn had enough nerve to challenge the good old boy pork system in the Senate joined by Senators like George Allen. If they did that, there is no stopping them and all of us from getting solidly behind a nomination and letting all of our Senators know we expect their support.

Election coming up next year and we can win this one if we all work together and flood those wavering Republican Senators on supporting a good conservative nomination. I have commented very little waiting for hearings but now that she has withdrawn, this nomination didn't make sense to me which is why I had very little to say.

My advice to a lot of Freepers is to GROW UP and quit the sniping both ways. You don't have to agree with the President 100% of the time but when it comes time to be in the trenches, get out and work to elect more conservatives like Dr. Coburn, George Allen, Sam Brownbeck and others instead of sniping about what you don't like. Agreeing with someone 100% of the time even if they are wrong hurts a person's credibility IMHO.

My two cents as someone that has not been involved in these flame wars this time around.

Well said. Pretty much how I see this too.

(For what it's worth) a local talkshow host has been saying Bush put her up to have her fail, in order to nominate a red meat conservitive.
Don't know weather I buy this or not, I throw it out to see what others say.

BS....... A red meat winger is out of the question as a nominee now. How can the wingers get the 50 votes to confirm with the left leaning Republican Senators and the gang of 14?

The President doesn't treat his close friends/associates in that manner, JMO, of course.

IMHO we are now going to get someone we can all get behind because the President has seen the conservatives of the party are going to stick together when a conservative is nominated. IMHO any conservative that doesn't get behind a Luttig or JRBrown nomination or Owens are not conservatives on here but trying to disrupt.

You are forgetting that the Republicans in the Senate act as if they are the minority. That's the problem. Has nothing to do with the infighting going on beyond The Beltway. We can sit here and figuratively gouge our eyeballs out 24/7, or scream from atop mountains, leave messages on Senators voice mailboxes, and the Republicans will still cave to the demands of the Democrats.

Worse yet, they can do what they did for the last two years, and that is: Hightail it to the tailgrass when Schmuckie says "This nominee is 'outside the mainstream'".

So stop banging your little spoon on your highchair and lets see if the president will nominate a qualified conservative for this extremely important position.

ROFL!

If the "prize" is seeing people like you leave the GOP, threaten away-

I'm not the one threatening to leave; and contrary to the long chanted mantra around here, it is YOU who cannot win without US.

Elections are won in the middle; sneer at us if you must, but you cannot get anybody elected by yourself.

I doubt Meirs voted conservative all of her life, worked on one Reagan and three Bush campaigns as an Independent voter and only publically registered Republican in 2002 in order to make a statement. Blow off.

We will never know if Miers would have been the one to swing the country back to the Constitutional role of the Courts.

Thank god we didnt find out....after reading that speech released yesterday she gave in 1993...convinced me I was right all along in opposing her.

You think I took any joy in fighting with YOU or Howlin....or Miss Marple.....over this pick.....then you all don't know me to well.

"Just as I predicted. W is now perceived as severely weakened and wounded. His enemies will move in for the political kill."

Could you please provide details (based in real terms) as to how his "enemies" are going to politically kill the president?

Are they going to use poison or a pistol? Last time I looked he was President until Jan 2009 and has majorities in each House until Jan 2007.

You won Laura. You won. You are disgraceful by continuing in your jihad against Miers.

So Laura Ingraham is a terrorist now? Poor Sinky, those nice men in clean white suits are coming for you ....

If FR was around when Reagan was President they would have hated him worse than Bush. Don't expect anything other than what we have seen. They own FR now.

So you went back in time, started Free Republic even before there was an Internet, saw how the Uber Conservatives (by they way, do you guys actually know what Uber means?) "hated" Reagan, and thankfully came back to our time to report this so as to embarrass us into changing our ways, right? Truly amazing. How stupid could we have been?

If we Miers "hating" eeevviiiil conservatives "hated" Reagan, how did he win by the largest vote margin in history? Seems mathematically impossible, doesn't it?

They consulted, and she decided to withdraw. It would be speculative to wonder which of them raised the issue first. What matters is that she offered to withdraw, and Bush agreed.

I would venture to suggest that both of them could see the handwriting on the wall and understand that the nomination was a mistake.
