We cannot allow the rats and rinos to dictate who sits on the Supreme Court. If this battle isn't fought now, it will never be fought.

It's not a fight I am interested in. Janice Rogers Brown and Littig are outside the mainstream of even conservative jurisprudence. Call me a Democrat if you like - I've been called worse things.

A 90+ confirmation vote on Ginsberg.

That's because, regardless of her politics, she is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. She is a sharp legal mind, even if one with whom I have sharp disagreements.

None of us care if the Senate has to be shut down for an entire year over this. They'll vote the nominee in as soon as a BUDGET has to be passed. If that takes a month, a year, or never, I don't care.

Glad you don't care. I do. Our troops need money. The Katrina victims need money. The essential functions of government require money.

Fight or give birth to a third party that will respect it's conservative base.

Good luck; American politics functions at the center.

Do you honestly believe the judges were not a big deal for the Evangelicals in the last few elections?

Sure they were, but if Evangelicals only want someone who is an Evengelical, without much interest in how they view interstate commerce, etc. then too bad for them. The evengelical community is an important one, and I hope that the next candidate is both and evangelical AND a brilliant legal scholar, who is an originalist.

Fortunately, conservative nominees are strong enough to face any challenges the LEFT might throw their way.

You never have been able to get it through your head you are not the only conservative. We have secular, Catholic, and Evengelical conservatives. We have won the elections in the past because we united in our hatred against the liberal values. That anger towards liberal values remains, but I don't think the unity is there now. Just read the number of dissensions, and you will start to see the picture.

The 'tiny powerless minority' are only a fraction of those who barraged Miers with criticism. You are confusing two separate issues.

The 'tiny powerless minority' are the irrational extremists on this forum who yell and scream about everything all the time because they have no real power.

Conservatives have political clout, and this time it was used to defeat a nominee for the SC before she had her hearing.

Yes, she stepped down, but it was not because of lack of courage. I'm guessing that it was to stop the flow of blood.

I will repeat for the hundredth time, I am not talking about those who spoke up and objected to her nomination. I am talking about those who assaulted her and the President.

And that is the last time I'm going to repeat that on this thread.

The same crowd will be yelling for the next crucifixion if a strong Evangelical is nominated.
So your hidden agenda is exposed.
Miers wasn't a strong anything.
If she had beem then she wouldn't have been opposed.

George Bush was a fiscal moderate, and a social conservative if you feel like getting technical on the issue of politics. We knew he wasn't a Reagen when he wanted "no child left behind" and the Prescription drug plan for Medicare recipients, but we also knew EXACTLY where he stood on social issues, and it sure as hell wasn't a Harriet Meirs he was espousing back then. Grow up and realize he's just a frigging man for God's sake. He makes mistakes just like the rest of us.

Well I already explained this to someone else but it boils down to losing the demand for an up or down vote as the fair thing to do. It was a good line and I think helped us. I would have preferred to see her voted down by the judiciary committtee. The system would have worked and the next time around we would have had that same weapon to weild against a filibuster. However, time to move forward for all of us.

Nice to see someone gets it

What I am reading by Republicans on this thread is ludicrous. You lose a battle and you want to throw out everything because this lady withdrew her name? Give me a break!

Threatening to stay home and not vote or work for good solid conservative candidates plays right into the hands of the RATs. If that is what some of you want to do, fine but count me out.

Our problem today is that not enough people have gotten out to work to elect good conservative candidates preferring to sit behind a computer and moan and grown when they don't get their way. That is not how politics works -- you don't win every battle, you cut your loses and live to fight another day. Shame some of you know so little about politics 101.

The President made a mistake IMHO with this nomination when good Republican Conservative Senators are not happy with her visits to their office. She had the courage to withdraw her nomination because it was going downhill fast, and I admire her for that as should everyone.

To state on this forum you won't support Republicans because the President just "may" have made a mistake, tells me that some of you are too wrapped up in winning instead of what is good for the Country and this President in the long run. You take your loses and live to fight again which is exactly what this President is doing.

Shame on some of you lifelong Republicans that would even dare mention you won't vote for President after what we went through in the last two elections or are you lifelong Republicans. I know what it is like as a teenager to have your candidate for President clobbered in an election, to see Carter beat Ford, and Clinton beat Bush #41 because of too many voters swayed by little big ears and that were mad at Republicans. I am not going to be party to the doom and gloom on here of people that lost a battle throwing in the towel. I will work just as hard if not hard in 2006 as the election here in Oklahoma is extremely important to me. We should in 2004 what the grassroots can do in electing Dr. Tom and I want more like him in the Senate.

This Conservative Republican has supported Pres Bush since 1994 and will continue to do so but that doesn't mean that everything he has done or will do I will agree with. The man surrounds himself with intelligent people so he can get varying opinions about a particular subject. Not every one of them walks in lockstep nor does he expect them to do that.

Now it is time to end this bickering, threats, and ridiculous comments on both sides and get out to work to elect more conservatives to the Senate and House. All politics begins locally and time for some of you to roll up your sleeves and get busy for 2006 and 2008! If you don't, then don't refer to yourselves as loyal Republicans.

There's very few people who have been personally attacking Miers OR Bush; rather, there has been a great number questioning/attacking her qualifications.

The two are NOT the same.

I won't be on this Web site anymore because you guys disgust me as much as the Libs disgust me.

C'mon, don't leave. We're going to have to be united on the next nominee as a major war with the Democrats is brewing. Please stick around.

Righto -

most conservatives agree on basic issues - foremost is that the country's foundation and bulwark against tyranny is the unadulterated interpretation of the Constitution. We simply could not support a new SC nominee who had NOT demonstrated a long term understanding of this.

Good idea, but I don't subscribe to either of those Magazines.

Maybe I could write to them and say, I was GOING to subscribe, but now I won't? ;)

You're right about the party, and it definitely applies to President Bush. He needs our support now more than ever. The wounds in his back from his 'friends' have to hurt far more than any from his enemies.

I'd love to see JRB but Bush likely won't do it. Owen, Clement, Jones, Sykes all stand a better chance.

JRB is my first choice; but at this point, I'm befuddled about who the President's "second" choice was/is. I'm not familiar with Bret Schundler.

I find it amusing that those who consistently treat politics like a game (blindly cheering on "their team" simply because they wear the right colors) are now the first ones to consider leaving the party after they lose one battle.

Frankly, it's laughable. After five years spent cheering on all-things GOP, how can anyone take their threat seriously now?

OMG you have to talk to a nominee personally before you can form an opinion?!?!?!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I must have missed my invite to the meet 'n greet!

***

If YOU would have paid attention, you would have known I was talking about the confirmation hearing. How about canning the sarcasm? It just makes you look particularly childish.

Suits me fine if you would rather just jump to conclusions instead of forming an opinion based on actual knowledge (as opposed to reliance upon innuendo, rumor, gossip and half truths) and a complete investigation of the facts. Trouble is that those like you who would rather form opinions based on the rants of some screaming blogger or biased webmaster will continue to make selection of a good judge, if not impossible, then at least more difficult than it needs to be. We will continue to have judges just like the current crop we already have.
