I second that notion. Personal attacks were juvenile at best. Though we all had hoped for someone else, there was no reason to attack this woman, least of all for personal appearances and the like. It is unbecoming any FReeper IMO.
Wonderful news. Now, it's time for the President and the Republicans in the Senate to undo the damage done to the party and the get the base motivated by nominating a known originalist with proven track record like Edith Jones of Janice Rogers Brown. If that happens, the Republicans can look to maintain or increase their majority in Congress in 2006.
Well said, Vicomte13!
The battle cry should be: No more Souters ....
Can we agree that most posters were reasonable, some weren't, it's over, now let's go kick some socialist ass?
That is a necessary part of the damning process.
What do you think about tomorrow Bush nominates Patrick Fitzgerald to the SCOTUS and at the same press conference, Fitzgerald announces no indictments?
; )
Prysson is correct. I read the same information. JRB did NOT ask to be withdrawn.
It is weaker. Therefore, expect Bush to nominate an acceptable SC candidate to the screamers, but to exert his independence from them in another area of policy.
There will be ample opportunity over the next three years to do that.
Who is the one you hope in nominated now and why ?
You tell me how someone with built up credentials are getting past the Dems and pro-choice GOP Senators?!
Amen.
You're remark about dissent being silenced and crushed is funny. How about the insults hurled at those of us who wanted to see Ms. Miers treated fairly? Hmmm... The crowd you represent sure did a mighty fine job of crushing our point of view.
To treat her, or any nominee, fairly is not the same as supporting the nomination. As for the unfair attacks being in the minority, sorry but you don't get off that easily. It isn't true.
Yep. You bet the unfair treatment of Ms. Miers sticks in my craw. It is what the Left has done to countless Republicans for most of my lifetime. Now I see the same vile tactics being used against a decent woman who, by all accounts, had led an exemplary life. There is no way I would ever condone that.
You uber-conservatives may think you've won, but you haven't. You want to get your candidates elected? You need the votes of Republicans like me to do it. And at least in my personal case, you have lost my vote forever.
Janice Rogers Brown would be savaged, but perhaps her nomination and savaging would make a point that the president and Sen. Frist have been trying to get across for a couple of years now.
There are republicans, too many of them, who will jump ship if it comes to a nuclear option vote. The nominee will then fail.
I think we need to walk down that road to prove that point.
Respectfully, how is some moron saying he was going to vote for Hillary a personal insult to the pro-miers side?
You know what though, you are right about missing the days when dems and jihadists were the enemy. It would be nice to quickly put this behind us and get back to fighting the libs. Nothing wrong with a small, healthy conflict within our side, but we have to pull together now.
Nobody fights harder than two brothers. Stress BROTHERS.
It's beginning to look like no nominee but Janice Rogers Brown will be acceptable to some.
Bush is only weaker now, because he chose to be. He can change that perception anytime he wants to. He just has to WANT TO.
" now let's go kick some socialist ass"
Hell yeah!
How do you know she didn't turn it down?
The same way that Roberts was getting past them prior to the change of his nomination?
