BOBIGNY, France (Reuters) -- French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy defended his tough crime policies on Monday after a fourth night of riots in a Paris suburb in which tear gas was fired into a mosque.

Sarkozy, addressing police officers, vowed to find how tear gas had been fired into the Muslim place of worship, an incident which had helped fuel the disturbances.

Youths hurled rocks and set fire to cars in the northeastern Clichy-sous-Bois suburb of the French capital, where many immigrants and poor families live in high-rise housing estates notorious for youth violence.

...snip

French television said six police officers were hurt and 11 people arrested in violence partly fueled by the incident at the mosque. Sarkozy promised an inquiry.

"I am, of course, available to the imam of the Clichy mosque to let him have all the details in order to understand how and why a tear gas bomb was sent into this mosque," he told about 170 police officers at the prefecture.

The French have housed the purveyors and implementors of most of the evil ideologies of the 20th Century and beyond, during important formative periods.

Examples: Marx, Engels, and many other Communists, to include many of Mao's cohorts, Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam, and Pol Pot of Cambodia.

On the Islamonazi front, the Ayatollah Khomeni is formost among the radical Islamists who spent significant time in France.

While I hate to see it happen to anyone, if it has to happen to someone, it's more than France's turn to feel some pain for the evil they have helped incubate.

it seems to me I recall reading an article or three about a village somewhere in France (perhaps a suburb of Paris) where French girls were being attacked by muslim males because they weren't dressed in burkhas, or being modest in dress..something along those lines..does anyone else recall that or has my age caught up to me??

Good point, though I seem to remember that going a bit awry at one time in the past . . . .

After days of striving mightily to disguise the fact that the rioters were Muslims, the story is finally leaking out to the extent that even CNN (I know, I know) has to mention it.

LOL. Sad and true. Sad for the Frenchies who've bent over backwards to placate immigrants who will never be satisfied until Sharia rules. Sad that they have bent over backwards and ignored the obvious.

The war in/for france is starting.

Even sooner than I thought. I had always (yes, it's true...) wanted to visit France, despite their recent weeniness. I wonder if they French are finally starting to realize what's at stake?

Exactly right.

Anybody who was paying attention could see this coming in 2001, and even before that, just by looking at the demographics.

There's a pretty fundamental difference in having uncontrolled immigration, and having uncontrolled immigration of people holding an intolerant midevil religion that preaches *all* must submit to it, under pain of, at best, second class citizenship, and often, death.

While neither is good, one is quantum leaps worse, and comparing the two is pretty absurd.

When it does, France will be destroyed or become Islamic (or both).

I guess this would be the time to dump our French wine stock... Can you imagine the "bouquet" once muslims take over the wineries...hee hee

Defend? Defend what? They love their non-assimilated Muslim immigrant countrymen, they want to be one with them. I'll bet some of them are busily dumping wine and throwing out art and fashion and selecting their new burqas (for the ladies) - you know, to accomodate the new immigrants' belief system and show their tolerance. You know, because they empathize with the immigrant aggressors and are filled with such self loathing.

All kidding aside, I hope they are starting to get it, that the immigrant aggressors will never be appeased, regardless the concessions, and they have to control the situation and rid themselves of the jihadists.

The French shouldn't be surprised if some morning they wake up and find the Arc de Triomphe topped off with a turban!

Much as I think we must close the borders, I have to point out that the Mexicans want to come here and pick vegetables, lay bricks, and pound nails to support their family, they are mostly catholic (about 98%) and generally hard working and not trouble makers.

Its the exact opposite with Muslims. In Britain an France, large percentages of them are on the dole, or dealing drugs, and want to pound heads, and the go out of their way to make trouble, insulting white women walking down the street in perfectly acceptable dress.

If it came to a choice I'd take a 100,000 Mexicans over a single Muslim.

I would be surprised NOT to see a civil war between the muslimes and the French.

They didn't do too well against the Nazis the last time; let's see how they do against the Nazis this time...

Maybe Prince Charles should stop off in France to give them his speech about the religion of peace before he harrasses us with it.

But, since France has chosen to be our enemy, why should we care?

How about the Islamic Republic of France with 4 SSBN's with 96 warheads each.

Oh, I know... How could they possibly admit that Muslims are a problem in France!!! I mean, that would go against everything the French have been told to believe about the U.S., Muslims, and the WOT.

Although, I really do hate it that we are in a position to say "I told you so"... No-one deserves to be treated as the Islamic "Radicals" treat infidels. I hope they get their heads on straight and fast.

I also hope this is a wake-up call to the anti-war protestors here in the US who insist that we bring things upon ourselves. They can't possibly say that about France. I imagine people over on DU sitting in dumbfounded shock unable to figure out how this happened...

Gotta admit, French nukes in Muslim hands would be a problem.

Also gotta admit, nukes are a fact of life in Pakistan. And if Iran does not have nukes already, they will soon.

By the time France goes Muslim (my personal guess is 15 years), nukes will be widespread in the Muslim world.

A more immediate problem is the open hostility of France towards the U.S. right NOW. I doubt they would use nukes on us (retaliation's a bitch..), but they are doing everything they can short of open warfare to harm this country.

Weak Brits, Though French (snip)

http://www.danielpipes.org/article/2764

While London hosts terrorists, Paris hosts a top-secret counterterrorism center, code-named Alliance Base, the existence of which was recently reported by the Washington Post. At Alliance Base, six major Western governments have since 2002 shared intelligence and run counterterrorism operations - the latter makes the operation unique.

More broadly, President Chirac instructed French intelligence agencies just days after September 11, 2001, to share terrorism data with their American counterparts "as if they were your own service." The cooperation is working: A former acting CIA director, John E. McLaughlin, called the bilateral intelligence tie "one of the best in the world." The British may have a "special relationship" with Washington on Iraq, but the French have one with it in the war on terror.

France accords terrorist suspects fewer rights than any other Western state, permitting interrogation without a lawyer, lengthy pre-trial incarcerations, and evidence acquired under dubious circumstances. Were he a terrorism suspect, the author of Al-Qaida's Jihad in Europe, Evan Kohlmann, says he "would least like to be held under" the French system.

The myriad French-British differences in treatment of radical Islam can be summarized by the example of what Muslim girls may wear to state-funded schools.

Denbigh High School in Luton, 30 miles northwest of London, has a student population that is about 80% Muslim. Years ago, it accommodated the sartorial needs of their faith and heritage, including a female student uniform made up of the Pakistani shalwar kameez trousers, a jerkin top, and hijab head covering. But when a teenager of Bangladeshi origins, Shabina Begum, insisted in 2004 on wearing a jilbab, which covers the entire body except for the face and hands, Denbigh administrators said no.

The dispute ended up in litigation and the Court of Appeal ultimately decided in Ms. Begum's favor. As a result, by law British schools must now accept the jilbab. Not only that, but Prime Minister Blair's wife, Cherie Booth, was Ms. Begum's lawyer at the appellate level. Ms. Booth called the ruling "a victory for all Muslims who wish to preserve their identity and values despite prejudice and bigotry."

By contrast, also in 2004, the French government outlawed the hijab, the Muslim headscarf, from public educational institutions, disregarding ferocious opposition both within France and among Islamists worldwide. In Tehran, protesters shouted "Death to France!" and "Death to Chirac the Zionist!" The Palestinian Authority mufti, Ikrima Sa'id Sabri, declared, "French laws banning the hijab constitute a war against Islam as a religion." The Saudi grand mufti, Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh, called them a human rights infringement. When the "Islamic Army in Iraq" kidnapped two French journalists, it threatened their execution unless the hijab ban was revoked. Paris stood firm.

What lies behind these contrary responses? The British have seemingly lost interest in their heritage while the French hold on to theirs: As the British ban fox hunting, the French ban hijabs. The former embrace multiculturalism, the latter retain a pride in their historic culture. This contrast in matters of identity makes Britain the Western country most vulnerable to the ravages of radical Islam whereas France, for all its political failings, has held onto a sense of self that may yet see it through.
