The CIA has been hiding and interrogating some of its most important al Qaeda captives at a Soviet-era compound in Eastern Europe, according to U.S. and foreign officials familiar with the arrangement.
The secret facility is part of a covert prison system set up by the CIA nearly four years ago that at various times has included sites in eight countries, including Thailand, Afghanistan and several democracies in Eastern Europe, as well as a small center at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba, according to current and former intelligence officials and diplomats from three continents.

This isn't exactly a new story. Amnesty and other alleged human rights groups have been saying this for at least a year now.

There have been allegations that these so-called secret prisons existed, but this is the first detailed quasi-confirmation that they do. I think the leak is coming from the Dems on the Senate Intelligence Committee. I wonder if the secret session of the Senate yesterday touched on this matter and its publication in the WP. I assume Dana Priest contacted various USG official to confirm the story and give them a heads-up about its publication today.

What's a CIA? The United States disavows any knowledge of an organization by that name and no organization by that name is currently working to defend America. This is clearly an anti-American interest.

Darn. Once the msm gets wind of the secret prison in Gitmo, they'll be demanding the red cross and amnesty int'l be sent to investigate conditions, and they will want lawyers for all the prisoners.
This would have never gotten out. But the other night Valerie Plame shouted it out during sex with her husband. At which point the WaPo reporter who has been firmly attached to Mr. Plames rear end, submitted his report.

Why is Cheney pushing for an exemption for the CIA to conduct these operations when our troops are hung out to dry?

Instead of sitting back in terror waiting for Kennedy and Reid to organize another investigation, or give this to Fitzpatrick, how about the Republicans calling for an investigation into who leaked this to the Washington Post, and putting a reliable prosecutor in charge?
Why not? The left can't very well scream after organizing their very own investigation into what they call Leakgate.
