Paris Riots Hit Night 10

ACHERES, France — Riots that started in Paris' lower-class suburbs and resulted in 250 arrests of predominantly Muslim youths Saturday moved into the capital of France early Sunday morning.

By 1 a.m., a spokesman for the national police reported 13 vehicles torched in the capital, and 607 vehicles burnt overall during the 10th straight night of rioting. Totals are expected to rise by morning.

The violence — originally concentrated in neighborhoods northeast of Paris with large immigrant populations — is forcing France (search) to confront anger long-simmering in its suburbs, where many Africans and their French-born children live on society's margins, struggling with unemployment, poor housing, racial discrimination, crime and a lack of opportunity.

Youths armed with gasoline bombs lit vehicles, a nursery school and other targets on fire as they made their way through higher-class towns and to the capital.

In quiet Acheres, on the edge of the St. Germain forest west of the capital, arsonists burned a nursery school, where part of the roof caved in, and about a dozen cars in four attacks over an hour that the mayor said seemed "perfectly organized."

Children's photos clung to the blackened walls, and melted plastic toys littered the floor. Residents gathered at the school gate demanded that the army be deployed or suggested that citizens band together to protect their neighborhoods.

Mayor Alain Outreman (search) tried to cool tempers.

"We are not going to start militias," he said. "You would have to be everywhere."

In one particularly malevolent attack, youths in the eastern Paris suburb of Meaux (search) prevented paramedics from evacuating a sick person from a housing project. They pelted rescuers with rocks, then torched the awaiting ambulance, an Interior Ministry official said.

"Who wants to bet that France will blame the rioting on Bush and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and not on the Islamoradicals?"

Isn't DU already doing that?

Revolting cat! - "The present situation (15 million of unassimilated Muslims in Europe, up from 0 millions 50 years ago,) is the natural consequence of this retreat, of this guilt over the past sins real or imagined of the West."

That was the result of their need for labor, not a desire to dilute themselves.

Revolting cat! - "Europeans exterminated (or watched the extrmintaion) their last restless unassimilated minority that produced a few anarchists and bomb throwers, only to invite another one into their midst (out of guilt, mostly, I think) that produces thousands of anarchists and bomb throwers, and now don't know what to do with it. It doesn't look good and the solution is not in sight.

I.e. the Jews?

A minaret on Notre Dame wouldn't bother me. Islamic control of French nukes would. This is why I would like to see Chirac take off the gloves.

"Not to sound tinfoilish, but the more I see this stuff with Muslims, the more I believe the battle of Armageddon will be Islam vs. the World."

My pastor was giving a Bible study about the end times once and stated that the Anti-Christ would rise out of Europe and be a muslim.

I disagree. Your assessment may have been true at the turn of the century, but not now. The two brutal world wars of the last century have resulted in a pacified Europe. The scourge of socialism and secularism have eaten away at the European soul. The last nail in the coffin is political correctness and guilt from imagined colonial crimes. This attitude is ingrained in Euorpean whites to an astoishing degree (of course, it doesn't stop them from being anti-Semetic). Take these three together and you have a Europe that is incapable of direct, effective action.

John speaking:

Interesting "counterpoints".

I forsee two possible futures for Europe:

1. Eurabia
-or-
2. A second Holocaust that will make the first one seem tame by comparison.

I can't see a "middle path". There is no way, there can never be a way, for the growing legions of Muslims to "integrate" into European nations and cultures, because European freedoms and cultures are anathema to Islam.

Again, Eurabia or the expulsion (or worse) of Islamics from the European continent.

I see a second Holocaust. They'll do it differently. The battle with the Muslims will shift to battlefield format, with instructions to "shoot to kill". I cannot predict the magnitude, but it will be breathtaking.

somehow, I find it hard to believe that Europeans are bending over backwards for Arabs because they feel guilty about Jews! I don't see Europe clamping down on anti-Semitism very effectively.

German Jews of the 1920's and 30's were very well assimilated into German society (and there were only about 300,000 in the whole country). Most of them were patriotic Germans, which makes the Holocaust even more shocking. No, I think Europe tolerates the Muslims >because< they are anti-Semites.

It's amazing that no one has been killed yet.

How would anyone know, as poor as the reporting has been? You may just have to settle for a running total of how many cars have been burned.

Do you have a cite for that? I haven't seen it in any articles, but would be interested in knowing more.

New car total for tonight: over 800. Here's the latest article on the rest of the damage.

Bummer for them. Insurance doesn't cover "Act of Allah".

I was wondering what minority revolting was referring to, as well.

Is paris burning?

Might be a nice gesture to air drop a million bags of marshmallows on them. No need to send them any weenies -- they've got plenty of those.
