What, the White Flags did not work??

"Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, who's been the target of a great deal of criticism for calling the rioters 'scum'....." No punishment is too draconian for calling them a name and getting it absolutely right -- and then having them prove you right, into the bargain. Off with his head!

Chirac is about as an effective a leader as Jimmy Carter. His dithering and attempting to pander to the rioters has made things worse. Interior Minister Sarkosy, a Chirac rival, is a hardliner and I think will quash the rioters with brute force.
The riots are Chirac's politcal end and I think Sarkosy, if he succeeds in restoring order, will eventually replace Chirac in a new government. The radical Jean Marie le Pen and his anti-immigration group will also benefit from this chaos.

"Seven police surveillance helicopters armed with high-tech cameras..." Better not riot.... We're WATCHING you!
I wonder how much quicker this whole mess could be resolved if that sentence had said "armed with large caliber weapons...".

As tempting as it is to simply say "I told you so" to the appeasers, it is probably better to cheer on the Le Pen types in France. According to who you talk to, Le Pen is bad news, too. He's more like a thirties National Socialist, the way I hear it.
Others please feel free to jump in.

Exactly. The Second Amendment of the US Constitution tells why we will never see anything like this from muslims in the USA. Unless, or until, they reach a "critical mass" that emboldens them. That being said, if we don't take measures to prevent this critical mass from accruing, through immigration limitations and reform, it could happen. Then, all bets are off, but it would become open season on muslims, with no "bag limit"...

French citizens offered to form militias to defend their streets against the hit and run Muzzie arsonists if the Army is not possible. The French authorities were horrified by the offer and told their citizens that civilian militias were unthinkable. The problem is not the French people, it is their government.

As hard as it is to supress a certain level of schadenfreude, I can't find anything good about the notion of a bunch of Islamic youths burning down Notre Dame Cathedral, or Sacre Coeur, for that matter, should this continue to spread.

First death confirmed in French unrestThe media now can call a Body Count tally in their reporting. I wonder if they will? I know that they love to lead every "IRAQ" story with a Death count.

Gotta love the French. They run off and leave a handicapped woman deserted on a bus. I guess I hope they put down the insurgency. Like the last two times we've had to save France, we don't have much choice but to hope they win.

Oh lookie, France is another Vietnam! It's a quagmire! We westerners ought to just pull out... Yes, I wonder what the French thought they were going to accomplish, getting involved in France in the first place?
Blowback is so predictable.

"So far no one has been killed during the civil unrest,"
Announced today at 13.00 hr French time.
A man died after being hit by a rioter. He was in acoma for 2 days.....he dies this morning.
The man tried to quell a fire and was assaulted by a masked thug.
The death of that man is buried in the French press.
Kristopher.

The citizens of America, faced with violence in the streets and an inept response by govenment, would do as we have always done: we'll take up arms and end the insurrection ourselves.
