there are many places across the country like Mississippi that are very rural and a lot of women do not have access to abortion

They probably don't have access to a Wal-Mart either.

Our state does the right thing, and PBS will chide us for it.
Oh the irony.

Onyx, is this the only place in Mississippi where someone can get an abortion, or is it the only place where someone can get it done on the taxpayers' dime?

If a non-biased news organization covered this, I would watch it. Since it's PBS why bother, you know what they're going to say.

Q. How do low-income women, who some might believe would want access to abortion, view restrictions?

A. Abortion was not on their radar. A multitude of issues face people who are living in extreme poverty that have nothing to do with abortion access.

On the other hand, there are many places across the country like Mississippi that are very rural and a lot of women do not have access to abortion and the women are very conflicted about it. They are not adamant [on either side of the issue].

They just accept the fact that abortion is not an option. One woman says abortion is $300 or $400 so there was no way she was going to be able to have that option, even if she could travel to the clinic, which is hours away and she would have to go [to the clinic] twice.

You mean people can actually accept that abortion is NOT AN OPTION?!?!? This is not what the DIMS have been telling us. You mean back alley hanger-abortions are not a result of this "mean-spirited" view? -sarc

This is the network that had a piece about how FDR had changed the popular definition of the words liberty and freedom from the government keeping it's shit covered nose out of one's business to mean a sense of entitlement have government take away the product of others labors and give it to you. PBS reported this like it was something to admire about FDR. Communist scum.

I lived in Starkville for 7 years. Starkville is more than an hour from the nearest interstate. But we had a Wal-Mart.

I watched it last night. I didn't want to, but I decided to suck it up and see what they had to say.

I was actually impressed. It wasn't what I expected. It talked a lot about Roe and then the Casey (sp?) case and how it affected the abortion rights movement. The pro-life representatives were fairly represented, in my opinion. They didn't feature the kooks that bomb abortion clinics and other such ilk. They talked more about the legislation and other programs that the pro-life side are utilizing.

Of course, the show featured some anti-life people (thats my new name for them. During the show, they continually called pro-life people "anti-choice", so in turn I will call them anti-life). One abortion provider actually boasted a little about how busy they are. I thought that was a little sick.

Not to give away the "surprise" ending, but one of the abortion providers actually admits that they are losing the battle. That made me smile :-)

I've argued this with my liberal friends for years. It is not the *poor* who are getting abortions. They cost too much. It is rich white girls getting abortions.

Thank you! I thought it was on via Direct TV last night, but I wasn't certain...lol. I think I saw a promo for it and then changed the channel.

GOOD to know it wasn't a hit piece.
