Pat Robertson has a message for Dover, PA: Don't ask God to help.

DOVER, Pa. -- Pat Robertson had a special message for residents of Dover, Pa., today after voters there elected to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial.

Robertson made the comment after Lee Webb of CBN News delivered a report on how residents in Dover voted in eight new Democratic board members, replacing all eight current members who had voted for a policy that required students in ninth-grade biology classes to hear a statement on intelligent design before hearing lessons on evolution. Webb then asked Robertson what he thought about the vote.

Here was Robertson's response.

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because he might not be there."

I think he's nuts

Maybe. But consider...

But since you rejected me (the Lord) when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,

since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke,

I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you-

when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me.

Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD,

since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,

they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm." (Proverbs 1:24-33)

Hmmm. It almost sounds like he put a pox on Dover. This could be fun to watch. :-)

Moses was called to speak for the Lord. I am NOT. To say otherwise would be blasphemous, IMHO.

<< Teaching evolution as the 'Origin of Life' is spitting in God's eye. Have you read your Bible lately? >>

Same old crap. Read your evolution lately? It says nothing about the origin of life -- as we have to repeat ad nauseam. But I am sure you already know this -- thus my label for creo/IDers continues to be proven: Liars for the Lord.

<< Apparently God was annoyed that those regions are so religious compared to, say, hurricane-free New York and San Francisco. >>

Hahaha! No no -- he sent those hurricanes to punish NO for Bourbon Street and the French Quarter -- which were the least damaged areas of the whole city! Hahaha! Maybe God needs to study geography?

<< It is because of love that parents discipline their children. It is hate if parents do nothing while a child ruins their future. Now substitute God for parents and America for child. >>

Good logic. Let's apply it now. Parents love their children, and punish them by killing OTHER children. I get it now: God loves his child, America -- so he disciplines that child by sending tsunamis and earthquakes to kill hundreds of thousands of others.

Sounds that great old evangel: Kiss Hank's feet and get a million dollars; refuse and Hank'll beat the crap out of you!

"Evolution does not address the origin of life. Have you read a science text lately?"

Let's just address the origin of man. National Geographic claims man evolved from apes. They even have a poster that shows it in full color!

Now God says He created man in His own image. God also says "...the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground..."

You see no contradiction?

Yeah, it looks like the bible contradicts itself, unless God is really a pile of dust. Either way, not a credible science text...

Anyone else noticed that the same people who complain in thread after thread that we are creating a "straw man" by connecting ID with God -- are the same people who are now jumping on the Robertson bandwagon and calling down fire and brimstone on voters for "voting God out"?

Yep -- Liars for the Lord. Shore-nuff. They prove it every time they open their mouths.

"ANYONE who hates America so much that they say we 'deserved' 9/11 is cordially invited to get the ---- out of our country. That includes Pat Robertson and all other traitors who agree with him."

Let me make this really easy for you. As a kid if you stole $100 from your parents and they caught you, do you expect some type of punishment? Are they punishing you out of love or hate?

America has been ignoring God for a while now, people who love America should be praying that America wake up. Don't expect God to be on your side if you are not on His side.

This is as basic as I can put it. If you still don't understand, so be it...

You are the one who brought up that oft-repeated lie about the "origin of life" -- and now you don't want to address it? Can you say "changing the subject?" I knew that you could. [Said in my best Mr. Roberts voice]

<< National Geographic claims man evolved from apes. They even have a poster that shows it in full color! >>

Wow! A poster! It MUST be anti-God! A curse on them! God is going to rain down fire and brimstone on them right away, I'm sure.

<< Now God says He created man in His own image. God also says "...the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground..." >>

The Bible does say that. It is your OPINION that "God" says it. You are welcome to that opinion. You are not welcome to force it into the science curriculum, unless you are also willing to allow me to teach Sunday School at your church, and teach evolution. Hey -- you get five days a week to preach your religion in school; all I'm asking for is one measly hour a week at your church. Deal?

<< You see no contradiction? >>

Yes. If you take the Bible literally at that point, there is a contradiction between that literal biblical statement and the findings of biology. So what? Science class is not about your particular method of biblical interpretation.

There are a lot of contradictions between literal biblical statements and science. Or do you believe that grasshoppers really only have four legs, and that the earth stands fixed and immovable?

Are you going to contradict those great creationist scientists, such as Luther and Calvin, who condemned Copernicanism on the basis of direct biblical statements? If not -- why are you picking and choosing which contradiction to stand on?

Science doesn't give a flying F*** about your religious opinions. But if it makes you feel any better, science doesn't give a flying F*** about MY religious opinions, either -- or those of my next-door neighbor, or of the kid who delivers the pizza.

Pat Robertson doesn't get it. Is it true God sends judgment on evil? Yes, but like 9/11, we with finite minds cannot be 100% sure why it is happening. God judges people after a continuous pattern of sins. Is that to say our country is not ripe for God's judgment? No. but we can forestall that like the city of Nineveh that changed their ways because of the doom the prophet Jonah predicted.

Let me make it simple for you. Pat Robertson hates America. Those who agree with him hate America too.

America does not need him or those who agree with him.

Can you be a little more specific? Does a flood qualify as God's judgment? A tornado? A fire? A football loss for a local junior high? A food poisong scare at the local Taco Bell? What?

Let's apply your method: Texas just voted for a ban on gay marriage. I predict that next spring, God will begin raining down judgment on Texas by raining down tornado after tornado! And just for grins -- he will go ahead and include Oklahoma and Kansas in that punishment.

There ya go -- three of the most religious, conservative states in the country. And I betcha dollars to doughnuts that they will all see many destructive tornados next year. Yep. God will be trying to get our attention -- right?

What a crock. People who presume to read providence like this and tell us just WHAT God is "saying" through this or that disaster or tragedy, are the most arrogant people ever to inflict any religion. People like this are God's punishment on Christians, I guess.

Sheesh!

The context of "judge not, lest ye be judged" is that we shouldn't judge people for doing things we are doing ourselves. Are you saying that flakes, frauds, money hucksters, false prophets, and plain old weirdos who presume to speak in the name of the God of Israel should never be called down by Christians? Of course they should be. How are Christians to govern themselves in their own local congregations and at large if they can't denounce or rebut people like Pat Robertson, who makes one goofy, wrong, or questionable pronouncement in the name of God after another?
