For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday... Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed Forces.

Looking forward to tomorrow's freedom? Support The United States Armed Forces Today!

HOW MANY VETERANS ARE THERE??? LOOK HERE TO FIND OUT

Load these tunes up to listen to while you prepare and send an e-card to a Veteran from*THIS SITE **AND here to send a message to a hospitalized veteran. We hope you enjoy our tribute for Veterans day.

Please take a few moments from your busy day to pause, reflect, and thank those who have served and are serving our country. Although this thread is dedicated to veterans of our Armed Services, many American families, have contributed to the preservation of the ideals of the United States of America. "Rosie the Riveter" serves as a symbol of all those who stayed behind during World War II. Mom may have helped at the Red Cross or USO, and rolled bandages at home. School girls and boys knit scarves, socks, and mittens for the men on the front, and collected milkweed pods for life jacket fill. From the American Revolution to today's War on Terrorism, many are the untold stories and many are the unsung heroes.

Today we ask that you remember all those currently in the service of the United States and all her allies.

While military conflicts are never easy to accept, neither are the denial of basic human rights. Whatever your opinions or beliefs, RESPECT and HONOR those who are answering the call to serve this country.

To the officers and soldiers of the American Armed Forces. Whilst we enjoy our rich heritage of civil and religious liberty, may we never forget the noble spirits who bought them with their blood and treasure.

Have a Meritorious Day
Over? Standing guard is never done for freedom’s sons
And daughters. Midnight phone calls from far off tell
Stories, sad news, good cheer from those we hold dear.
Dear, dear ones, take care. Take care of those souls, those hearts
We hold close and send off in faith to fight for those who ache to know
That expansive stretch of free air we have here in their own lands.
And, dear Lord, please stand guard o’er our brave sons and daughters,
Watching in our stead with Your steadfast light to bring them, steel them
To the fight for all that is Good. Pave each road they tread with divine iron
Wrought for them alone. March them victorious to day’s end safely, sure
In their hearts that, as we are with them, so are You, on each
Meritorious Day.

Dedicated to the men and women of the United States Armed Services

My God protect you, guard you and keep from any harm. If you should find yourself in danger's path, may God bring you back whole of mind and body to all those who love you. May the honor and courage within you guide you as you serve your God, your people and your nation.~ Rabbi Mordecai Finley blessed his son, who is a Marine infantryman, with this blessing

Return to Beauty

Come home my brothers and sisters, come home to the sacred mountains, come home to the sweat lodges, come home to the ceremonies, come home to your moccasins.

Let the guidance of the creator bring you along the path of the rainbow, through the echoes of sacred songs where beauty will encircle your soul with comfort.

The feathers that protected you , the tobacco offered, the prayers sought, the sage drifting in mid air, purify your senses, purify your soul, purify your body. Renew your spirit for you are the child of the creator, follow the sacred path, the corn pollen path, where beauty and harmony will nourish your tattered soul.

You are my honored guest, you hold my pride, you have done well to protect our rights, to protect our homeland we hold so dear. The legacy of our ancestors, who fought for our rights, who fought for our land, is innate in your soul.

You pave the path for the noble spirit of our patriotic ancestors who have gone before you, who gave unselfishly. You will never be forgotten, our MIA’s, our Code Talkers, Ira Hayes, our Chiefs of distant past, our Women Warriors, Lori Piestewa, our fallen hero of a new beginning, and our Vietnam Warriors. We praised you long before the country stigmatized your efforts in Vietnam. Your duty and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We honor you at Pow Wows, we honor you as the drums beat, to the prayers spoken, to the Gourd Dance. You will always be my honored guest.

Return to beauty my Native Veteran Warriors, return to the path of the creator, return to harmony. In beauty it is so….. Welcome Home.

Women in the military,veterans too!

Did you know that there are almost two million women veterans? From the American Revolution to Panama, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq , women have served in some way in every conflict. Not that they were legal in the early days. History tells us that thirty three thousand women served in World War One and almost 500,000 took part in World War Two. During the Korean era 120,000 women were in uniform and seven thousand were deployed in theater during Viet Nam. During Desert Storm seven per cent of the total U.S. forces deployed were women - over forty thousand of them. On these pages you will find the history and accomplishments of those women who have served this country - voluntarily - since it's beginning.

Buffalo Soldiers
Black soldiers fought in Washington's army during the War of Independence, and served with Andrew Jackson at New Orleans in 1815. Late in 1861, Colonel T. W. Higginson took command of the First Regiment of South Carolina Volunteers, the first Black regiment in the service of the United States.

On June 28, 1866, an Act of Congress authorized the creation of six regiments of Black troops, two of cavalry and four of infantry. These troops went on to play a major role in the history of the West, as the "Buffalo Soldiers."

Welcome to the Canteen, LongElegantLegs, where we honor our troops, our veterans, their families, and our allies every day. We are here 24(mostly)/7/365 to provide a place for our military to stop in, pull up a chair, enjoy a joke, hear a song (requests taken), read some history, enjoy a cyber meal (no calories), hear about our families lives, join in the silliness, and just relax.

Greetings, FReepers, Troops,
and All the Ships at Sea!

Reporting LIVE! from the Fobbit Hole in the rich bottom lands of the Euphrates River Valley, it’s the continuing saga of Sarge's Most Excellent Adventure!

And it's a quiet start to Veterans' Day here in the Euphrates River Valley. Sarge could NOT resist showing off the Canteen to The Kids of The Company this morning. As Bilbo, Kidder, Combat Barbie and the Blue-eyed Devil looked over his shoulder, Sarge scrolled down the whole thread. The B-E-D was very glad to read all of DBR's good research, and applauds the workmanship. Bilbo just wanted to know where Michelle Malkin was...

But EVERYONE loved the poster of the GI with the canteen cup, commenting on the media. Are there more of those? The Kids want to know.

The USO will bring their entertainment to us right here, on the 15th! Lots of excitment is in the air, as the headliners are one of theose NFL cheerleader groups (Sarge can't recall which one). Today's morning conversation went like this:

Combat Barbie: "I don't know what y'all're excited about, just a bunch o' dancin' girls..."

Bilbo: "Well, what about bringing the Chippendales, just for you?"

Blue-eyed Devil: "Oh, that's ALL we need, a cat-fight to see who's prettier..."

Sarge: "Hell, you're satisfied just watching US! Let the Marines jog past in their silkies, and you take a bag o' pretzels and make a day of it!"

CB: "Naw, I don't want the Marines, I see enough o' them. What about those hot firemen, why not them?"

Bilbo: "Just give the three of us enough coffee, and we'll put out every fire you see!"

Bilbo is laughing, Sarge is stomping around howling, B-E-D is sliding down the wall reduced to tears, and Barbie is throwing pebbles at Bilbo yelling, "Y'all're EVIL! EVIL!!!"

Sarge will be in and out of the area all day, so Happy Vets' Day, Y'all!

SARGE
