LUCAS Dawson began carrying a knife after being attacked while kissing his male lover in a South Philadelphia Park four years ago.
Now, after a second assault by gay bashers - one of whom he killed in self-defense - Dawson's thinking about getting a gun.
The 21-year-old was cleared yesterday of charges in the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy who was among a group that attacked him near his East Mount Airy home on Oct. 29.
There was great relief at the Dawson home yesterday after the decision by a Municipal Court judge, but now the concern is his safety.
Last night, Dawson packed to leave home for fear of retaliation.
"I mean, seven guys jumped me, and one guy died," he said. "There's still six other people that want to hurt me.
"I fear for my safety, and that's why I'm moving away," he added. "I won't carry a knife on me anymore, but I am considering getting a gun permit."

That's why it is called an "equalizer".
While I don't approve of his life style, I do approve of his finding the guts to fight back. I hope he finds peace somewhere else, and gets instruction in the proper use of a gun.
I'm betting the usual MSGM (Main Stream Gay Media) will pretend he doesn't exist. They're only interested in beatified martyrs whom they can make political hay out of.
Besides, they're leftists and leftists don't believe in self-defence.
I'm all for any individual who acquires a gun, is knowledgeable about it's use and is prepared to defend himself. I'm also for discretion in the exercise of displays of affection that many consider an abomination. I even feel that way about hetro displays.
Sounds to me like this guy is asking for whatever loose hinged nut is ready to dish out.
A liberal is a conservative who hasn't been mugged.
No pun intended...
Yeah, kinda like a chick in a mini skirt is just asking to be raped, right?
No one deserves to be attacked for any reason.
ping
To tell you the truth, he probably has more to fear from his male lover than any homophobe who might want to attack him.
I'm a "chick" and I'll jump on that. If girls dress like it's free and they're a walking ad for it, guess what's going to happen? Don't advertise what you aren't giving.
No one deserves to be attacked for any reason.
I agree with that but it a person knows it's a possibility why be a fool?
There is so much about the eight years of the Clinton crime family's corruption of our country that makes me disagree with you. But, I'm sure you weren't talking about that.
I love the death penalty. I think it is very effective regarding the recidivism rate. I just don't think anyone deserves the right to beat the crap out of someone simply because they don't agree with them.
But I know there are some who think that being gay is such a heinous behavior that this guy, and anyone like him, deserved to be beaten up. I wonder how they would feel if someone beat the crap out of them for being hateful judgmental jerks?
You can certainly treat someone differently based on their appearance, and we all do it. But NO ONE deserves physical harm for being different, no matter how you view them.
You and I would of course take into account the possibility of attracting unwanted attention, but for those who don't, will we not defend them when they are victimized?
Really? Then why, four years after he began carrying a knife, was he attacked again by yet another homophobe?
Not the same thing at all, or don't you see the difference?
Think back to darker days in the South where a black man might walk down the street holding hands with a white woman. There likely would be trouble. That doesn't make any trouble right but it is an acknowledgment of the social climate of that day and place.
as though it was his own fault for being attacked. Yes I acknowledge that some behavior is inviting trouble.
But as I wrote in another post, "You and I would of course take into account the possibility of attracting unwanted attention, but for those who don't, will we not defend them when they are victimized? "
Excellent use of an edged weapon in self-defense.
Now his lawyer needs to get busy and sue the city for false arrest --- he's been in jail when he should have been released on his own recognizance pending trial.
Libby-fool D. A.s who can't tell the difference between self-defense and manslaughter need to have their hands slapped.
Deserving it isn't the point. Being foolish is. Hookers don't dress like nuns when attracting customers.
But NO ONE deserves physical harm for being different
No one on here said any differently.
You and I would of course take into account the possibility of attracting unwanted attention, but for those who don't,
There are hospitals.
will we not defend them when they are victimized?
I would hope the police arrest any attacker. Beyond that, some people need object lessons in being discreet.
That was my point in the first instance. The response was gratuitous. The rest (About defending 'True' victims) goes without saying.
