I keep hearing that Col. Murtha is a 37 year veteran of the Marine Corps. Wasn't he only on active duty a brief part of that time and a reserve officer the rest??

The guy served- and I salute him for it..sorry to be snippy- but how long etc doesn't matter. What MATTERS is that he's betrayed his Marine Corps and every other member of the military.

What Congresswoman Schmidt did was gutsy- it needed to be said and heard.

He has been in Congress for 17 terms that,if fully served is 68 years. This guy is walking reason for term limits. Read his statement and see if you think he is senile. His concept makes no sense no matter where you stand.

Per his biography, he served in active duty 1952-1955, and 1966-1967 and was Marine Corps Reserves, 1955-1966, and 1967-1990

So his active duty service was somewhere around 4 to 6 years. In his first tour of active duty he rose to NCO (see other bio page), then volunteered to go to Vietnam for a year just before going into politics
