“They risked their lives together,” Trogden, a pastor who knew the Bordens in Charlotte, N.C., said. “Mike and Cathy were willing not only to risk their lives but to lay down their lives.

“And they did so ... together.”

“They loved you so much,” he said, speaking to the Borden children, “and cared for you so well, and prayed for you.”

“Kara was able to reach out to touch some of the most unlovely people.”

I don't know. The statement is baffling.
Seems to me she definitely reached out to the very wrong person.

Very moving story. Prayers for the children and family and friends of this couple.

Both of my parents passed away within 4 years of each other, and their desire was that the gospel be preeminent at each of their funerals. Both funerals were very touching and moving, and as the children, we drew tremendous strength from them.

I feel especially bad for that fourteen year old girl. Fourteen year old's don't have the best judgment in general, concerning friends and especially concerning boyfriends.

Most of us have at least one point in our lives when we misjudged a person. Usually, it just ends up hurting us emotionally. We find out, we move on and we learn from it. No permanent harm done.

I'm sure being fourteen she was enthralled by the idea of an older boy taking interest in her. Justifiably so, her parent's were not thrilled about it. Trying to keep up with the older crowd she stays out all night, Her concerned parents are worried and when she comes home they hold her and him accountable. Like good parents.

No one, including her parents thought that her boyfriend was dangerous. He wouldn't have been in their home. I feel so sorry for her siblings, but I feel especially sorry for her.

Kara Borden, wearing a light-colored sweater, sat with her four siblings during the funeral.

She bears some responsibility and blame for her parents' murder. She brought the wolf to their door with her sin.

My prayers are with the Borden children this evening, and with all who mourn for this couple that was so brutally slain, that the Lord will bring them comfort and strength.

Mike and Cathy were willing not only to risk their lives but to lay down their lives.

They may have been willing to lay down their lives; but in this scenario; they never had a chance.

Their lives were stolen from them - they no doubt thought they were dealing with an untrustworthy teenager; not a psycopathic killer.

The boyfriend can rot in hell for what he did in wiping out a family and leaving the children orphans.

Thanks for the update. It must still seem surreal to all of them.

I only hope that Kara's parents can forgive her for her role in this.

Kara Borden had better make something very special out of her life. Whatever her degree of guilt, she'll need therapy, as will all her siblings, for a long time. The family will resent her, perhaps even blame her...naturally. Still, she's only a kid and that explains everything. Adolescents' brains don't fire the way adults' do. Terrible tragedy, for the shooter's family, too.
