Not until the links to the JFK assassination are finally cleared up.

Quit worrying about the world population and read the rest of the article. Do you agree that building on a sinking, soft soilbase is intelligent?

If you think people will just abandon a major city (major port, center of historical importance, great tourist town, etc) because of a couple of sections (i.e. the ninth ward) are messed up and everybody else might have to change out some carpet/windows, you are out of your mind.Who's thinking this? No one's trying to get you to leave if you don't want to.

It's revelant in that it will be your tax dollars that contribute to the rebuilding costs.

My reaction is "so what". Virtually ALL of Holland is in the same fix---well below sea level. They seem to do OK with it.
To: goresalooza
"Absolutely not. No one can guarantee a levee system that can hold, it's that simple." The Dutch seem to have managed it, and for a far longer time period than Louisiana/New Orleans. The problem in New Orleans is the local corruption caused the levees to either not be correctly constructed or properly maintained.

Not with tax payer money.

I don't mind if you want to rebuild with your money. The French chose to build NOLA on the peat moss base. Americans are supposed to have more intelligence than that.

How intelligent is throwing away one of the worlds busiest ports? As far as building the city is concerned, let private money rebuild it.

Should New Orleans be Rebuilt? No.
I worked hurricane Katrina relief. The city is an unbelievable mess. On TV, you think there is a pocket here and there of devastation.
In reality, it goes on for miles and miles miles.
This disaster was an act of God.
He won.

Terrorists would blow up the new levees and since there would be no warning, several thousand folks would die along with the 500 billion dollars damage.

Private money can rebuild the port also. If it's such a busy place, then surely there'd be enough money flowing around to pay for the facilities, provided of course that that those who use them, pay for them (which is how it should be anyway).

Yep ...lots of farmers with falling crop prices and rising fuel costs have no place to store grain due to not being able to move it down the Mississippi and to the port of N.O.
