Focus on the Family Severs Ties with Wells Fargo (bank advances radical homosexual agenda)
FOCUS ON THE FAMILY ^ | December 1, 2005

Posted on 12/05/2005 4:54:18 AM PST by Liz

Following comments made on today’s “Focus on the Family” radio broadcast regarding the organization’s decision to end its banking relationship with Wells Fargo, Focus President and CEO Jim Daly issued the following statement: “Focus on the Family has elected to end its banking relationship with Wells Fargo, motivated primarily by the bank’s ongoing efforts to advance the radical homosexual agenda. These efforts are in direct opposition to the underlying principles and purpose of Focus, and thus a decision of conscience had to be made, and a stand taken.

Earlier this year we learned that Wells Fargo gave a matching gift to a pro-homosexual group to enable it to raise more money to fight organizations like our own. As one of Wells Fargo’s customers, we objected, and we received no satisfactory resolution from the bank’s corporate office.

The homosexual group’s web page said this: “Incredible news: Wells Fargo has offered to help support GLAAD’s fight for equality against the Anti-Gay industry by matching your tax-deductible contribution dollar for dollar.”

We realize that if we dealt only with companies that reflect our Christian values we would have a hard time doing business with Corporate America. That said, when our bank allows proceeds from our business to be used to impede our work, we must object, even if it inconveniences us in our professional relationships.

We at Focus on the Family respect the worth and dignity of every human being. We are not attacking the gay individual, nor are we singling out Wells Fargo employees for censure. We had the opportunity to work with many Wells Fargo staff while in relationship with the bank, and we know firsthand the good job they do. However, we feel that the aggressive agenda of the homosexual movement and its activists is harmful to families, and we believe it is time to stand up and fight that. Our decision is not personal, but principled, and we trust our constituents and others will respect it.”

I've been considering severing ties with Wells Fargo ever since they took their anti Boy Scouts position. The source of my hesitation is the unanswered question "Where will I take my business?".

What businesses have declared themselves not hostile to Christianity? Is there a list of corporations that Christians should be supporting out there somewhere?

Now, if people will only sell Wells Fargo stock or sell the mutual funds that hold Wells Fargo stock, we might get somewhere with this!

I think a look at most major banks charitable contributions would find equally troubling findings. I wonder who Focus on the Family is banking with now?

Someone has to take a stand and I have no problem with their decision. The liberal activities of big companies should not be ignored. They deserve to be questioned and challenged (including stockholder meetings).

I have no disagreement with you. What I'm asking, is FOTF simply sabre rattling by moving from a bank that supports something they disagree with to another bank that does the same thing, but with maybe a lower profile. Or are they moving to a bank that does not support something FOTF disagrees with.

I seem to remember serveral years ago that Wal-Mart had a large fanfare and promotional coverage when the announced they were discontinuing carrying rap music due to lyric content, when they continued to carry mags such as Cosmo and other "provacative" content? And it wasn't too much later that the rap music returned to the shelves.

Is FOTF essentially doing the same thing with their bank move?

Wal-Mart has been consistent in it's actions.

The do not fill prescriptions for abortifacient birth control pills, or for post-conception medication.

Wal Mart has been seen in TV reports' hidden cams as refusing to sell X-rated videos to underage teens.

I have no problem with FOTF publicizing their decision about
Wells Fargo Bank. Maybe more people will move away from that bank and it'll get them thinking. No one is perfect, but Wal Mart does a lot of good in spite of its shortcomings(allowing government controlled unions in its China stores). If Sam Walton were still with us some of this kind of crap wouldn't be going on.

Walmart does not sell x rated videos. They do sell some R rated films.

Not all Wal-Marts operate with the abortifacient birth control pill standard. Many use the markets demand for such products, but it's not an across the chain policy to not sell abortifacients.

FOTF is using this as a publicity vehicle.
