LIVE THREAD: Cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization bill - C-span 2 9:30 am EST
C-span 2

Posted on 12/16/2005 6:13:47 AM PST by ken5050

This morning, the Senate meets at 9:30 for a cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization Bill. Dems have vowed to filabuster it, ( though it's not clear if all will support the filabuster) joined by 4 Republicans. Should be fireworks on the floor..President Bush yesterday firmly called upon the Senate to support the Patriot Act, and many Republicans can't believe the Dems would be stupid enough to do this. So follow along...

This may also be a feeling out..a test of strength, for the upcoming Alito hearings..

Late yesterday, Feinstein and Clinton both announced they would support the filabuster..Frist has a chance to demonstrate leadership here..

But what about all of the thousands of proven instances of horrible civil rights violations due to the Patriot Act? Hundreds? Dozens? er ... never mind!!

Senator Hillary "FBI FILES" Clinton has some nerve opposing this legislation. She spits on privacy rights.

Governmental power greatest threat, Hagel says
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1541686/posts

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska said Thursday that a proposed renewal of the anti-terror law known as the Patriot Act would weaken Americans' civil rights and that he will back a filibuster today if the Senate tries to pass the bill.

4 Republicans. You can't really credit Democrats as they're standing against it mainly based on partisanship. But only 4 lousy Republicans. And probably not even the few conservatives that are left in the party. That's it. Simply pitiful.

"Senator Hillary "FBI FILES" Clinton has some nerve opposing this legislation. She spits on privacy rights."

The last remaining U.S. independent counsel, David Barrett, after spending $21 million over 10 years, on Jan. 12 finally will close down his investigation of former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros' lying to FBI investigators about hush money paid to an ex-mistress. The political significance is that the Barrett report's shocking allegations of high-level corruption in the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department are likely to be concealed from the public and from Congress.

The left really timed the leaks about spying on American citizens well, didn't they? Takes away from all the wonderful news from Iraq yesterday.

Have you ever noticed that Reid cannot handle 5 syllable words?

Tony had a great article today about how the left just can't admit when there's good news anywhere in the world under a Republican president.

Reid sounds like a teenager whining that he's been grounded during spring break.
