My thought too. His trip has been cut short and he is, at least, on the way home.
Has there been any other report on this? I scanned the thread, but saw none...could have missed it.

The rule is so that if there is a crash on landing, you will be able to see clearly if there is any fire on your side of the A/C, so you will know which side to evacuate on.OK. I guess that makes sense - if I were to survive the crash landing.

You would be amazed how many cases there are on the books where the passengers survived a crash of a commercial landing, but were so shocked they never tried to evacuate the A/C.
For example, when the Air Florida 737 went into the Potomac, the survivors said there were many others who just never tried to swim out of the A/C.
