I rode mass transit yesterday (not unionized) for the first time in a decade. Absolute inefficiency, total inconvenience, and a foolishly dangerous situation in the age of terrorism.

There's a small possibility that Hillary could step in as "peacemaker" to get her approval numbers up. Not that it will happen but I'm 100% sure her people are looking at it should an opportunity present itself for her to horn her way into this.

I'm looking forward to stories about people getting ticketed for having mannequins and inflatable "passengers" in their cars.

Dealt with the teamsters in the trucking industry ... unions have their place, but when they pull stunts like this they do irreparable harm to businesses across the board. This is a devastating blow to NYC at any time (except for August) but in the days leading up to Xmas it will absolutely cripple NYC commerce. The unions, and I learned this early on, are led for the most part by thugs ... and reflect that mentality.

Gives her a great chance to ride "home" to the rescue and get her away from pretending to care about the people of New Orleans.

Forced walking will get some of that lard off their bellies and butts for the world's fattest city.

I grew up in NY, and rode the subways every day when I began working. It was 10 blocks to the nearest station -- through cold, snow, hail, rain or muggy heat, and another 12 blocks to my office on the other end.

Contrast that to the ten steps I now take to and from the car every morning.

If NY is the "fattest city," which I doubt, it sure as heck doesn't have anything to do with mass transit.

Strike means nothing...get out and walk.

Wake up.

NYC is not Mayberry.

I'm not an NYC resident, but have you ever seen a map of the NYC metro area?

You can get satellite photos on the internet.

Of course she's not back 'home' in New York. For a liberal who doesn't intend to actually do anything about either event, this one's a no brainer. Going out and complaining about other people's problems is always preferable to sitting around and complaining about your own.

The MTA tried to convince the TWU to move these negotiations to March/April-when a potential strike wouldn't be as crippling-and they refused.

Big surprise there.

Fat Transport Workers Union chief Roger Toussaint thinks NY'ers too lazy to walk and will give in.

Anyone more pro-union fat advocates in the house?

Strike means nothing... only effects those who can't cope.

Where do you live?

Then you gave a hostage mentality....it can be done and will be done or pay the union. You have two choices give in or tough it out.

55.

I'm pretty sure that applies to most MTA employees.

My father-who hasn't been a member of the union in years-was eligible for retirement earlier this year.

They wanted to raise the age for new workers, which was supposedly a sticking point between the two negotiating teams.
