Easy to make. Take regular beer and dilute with water in a 1 to 1 ratio. The trick is to sell the adulturated and watered down product as something that anyone actually wants to drink. Lite beer is brewed, er, manufactured, by accountants.

For you young guys, "light beer" was first marketed as "low-calorie beer", and it was a total flop. The name was changed to "light beer" and the rest is history.

> The man who's given credit for inventing light beer has died.

I thought he'd been executed for that crime.

Ah, must have received clemency for an extenuating
circumstance.

Or perhaps the whole thing was a big joke on the majors.
Telling them they needed to sell water, and then teaching
the public what beer really needs to taste like.

Let's be honest, you would have spilled it anyway when you fell over ;-)

On this sad occasion, we must pray to the patron saint of beer.... http://www.beerchurch.com/saint_arnold.htm

How many happy guys do you think there were during that procession?

Tonight I'm enjoying a Chimay Ale Groaned Reserve from the Scourmont Abbey in Chimay, Belgium. It's a real beer. I'll be celebrating the passing of the man who brought us the curse of lite beer and the "men" he created who drink the stuff.

I'm sure he was a nice man, but he unleashed an ocean of tasteless, empty and unsatisfying "beer" on the world which in turn created generations of tasteless, empty and unsatisfying slackers, 30 year olds living with Mom and metrosexuals . I'm sorry, but good riddance Mr. Owades.

Lite beer is for people who don't like beer. The same people eat veggie burgers and put Sweet'n'Low in their decaf non-fat lattes. Eat less! Don't take it out on your taste buds! They drive Prius', too.

Civilizations the world over have, for thousands of years, enjoyed the virtue, craft and pleasure of real beer. And then Joseph Owades comes along and strips the very character, taste and life out of the libation known for it's bold character, wonderful taste and living ingredients. Thankfully, there are thousands of breweries big and small around the globe creating an endless supply of real beer and ales for real people to enjoy.

Some of my friends drink light beer. They wanted to go see Brokeback Mountain last weekend. Had to refuse.

The movie, or the...oh, never mind. ;)
