Joe Kennedy, Ted's father, had a stroke couldn't speak for 8 years. Rose Kennedy had a stroke and was confined to a wheelchair for over 10 years.

But nowdays, it seems some folks are more impatient with stroke patients.

thanks for the february segway

Perhaps you meant:
segue \SEG-way; SAYG-way\, intransitive verb:
1. To proceed without interruption; to make a smooth transition.
noun:
1. An instance or act of segueing; a smooth transition.

Shhhhh. It's a pun. You are supposed to laugh. She is good at them. Be sure to turn out the lights when you leave this thread.

Good restatement of what was very recently discussed here --- that both styles of socialism have the same end goal and the same end result, which is totalitarianism. It's a matter of style in the end. Which style becomes the prevalent undercurrent - ie: inserts more of its thought into the mainstream - is mostly determined by this history and economy of the country involved. For a discussion -- in the form of a satire --- as to why fascist-inspired thought became more prevalent here than communist inspired thought, see #558. Same post addresses how it can happen his. And is to some extent.

Short answer: fascist inspired thought takes hold more readily here because it gives the illusion of being compatible with capitalism.

"That would be hilarious if it weren't so... true."

Yeah, it seemed like a good time to repost one of my oldies.

Thanks. I wish I'd been doing some new graphics, but that oldie fits the situation.

I wish someone would put up warning billboards at the FL borders on I-10, I-75, and I-95.

Missed that. But I've been looking at this slice of history for decades, and no doubt you have too. The antidote -- at least it used to be one -- is the unique American philosophy at its founding. We are free men, joined in a Free Republic, so long as we govern ourselves with God's law. When we let that slip away, ka-boom!, we go from the smallest, least bothersome government on earth to the biggest, brassiest, most expensive state in history. Next thing you know, the world is awash in red shirts and brown shirts and black shirts and the wrong sort of towelheads and a parade of horrid people grasping for power.

It is related in the Book of Samuel that the Israelites, in just this way, grew weary of their liberty and decided they wanted a king to go before them and fight their battles. The Lord told them (so to speak) that it was Him or the IRS, and told Samuel privately that they would opt for the IRS and be very, very sorry for it, but that's the way things were.

In other words: government is punishment for sin.

There's the whole of political philosophy in five words :-)

Is Michael going to be on MSN tonight, anyone hear that?

Supposed to say how politicians blocked him from doing what Terri wanted?

freema was just mentioning it on our new Terri February Dailies thread, post 136. Countdown with Keith Oberman. That should be at 8:00pm. I just found it, will update freema. "Michael Schiavo tells how he plans to fight the politicians who used Terri's life."

Yeah, used to be. But that was then and this is now.

"Next thing you know, the world is awash in red shirts and brown shirts and black shirts and the wrong sort of towelheads and a parade of horrid people grasping for power."

Our homegrown ones will be, and are, of the brownshirt/blackshirt variety. though they'll likely wear white shirts, black suits, and red ties. We'll follow them into anything as long as they're "our team". Party before everything, and all that.

Good tagline.

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

The lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him . . . ~ Psalm 103

Prayer bump for Scott Thomas.

Update on Scott Thomas' website -- http://scottsfight.com/Scott's%20News.htm
UPDATE -- February 4, 2006

Today Pamela was invited to speak at the quarterly meeting of Florida Right to Life in Orlando. She and Scott and their caregiver/friend Amy made the trip in the rain to come share their experience over the last year and a half since his injury.

Pamela shared the story again from the date of his injury on September 4th, 2004, to the news of his imminent transfer to hospice, to her being granted and continuing to receive temporary full guardianship. Many questions were asked, and she was given a standing ovation when she was finished.

Scott listened attentively, and then was willing to pose for several photographs to commemorate the day.

[see photos] The first photo is of Scott and Amy listening to Pamela speak (middle). The last photo is Pam and Scott posing with Robin Hoffman, President of Florida Right to Life.

On NRTL website, see The WILL TO LIVE Project.

Love & hugs to you, dear tut.
