Battle of the Sexes in Hockeytown USA (Womens Olympic Team loses to High Schoolers)
Star Tribune ^ | January 05, 2006 | Larry Oakes

On a night filled with honor and fun, the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team faced the Warroad High School boys. The boys won 2-1.

WARROAD, MINN. - Both the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team and the Warroad High School boys' team said their unusual match Wednesday night was about honor.

The boys said they wanted to rise to the honor of facing some of the world's best women players and doing them justice.

The women said they wanted to honor the town and the people who have done perhaps more for hockey than any town in the United States.

...coaches agreed to a no-checking rule.

But the young Warroad Warriors lived up to the town's long history of hockey honor, winning 2-1 by beating the women at their own game of finesse and speed.

A crowd of more than 2,000 fans packed the 1,700-seat Gardens Arena in this town of about 1,800 on the Canadian border.

In a scene reminiscent of coach Herb Brooks' speech to the U.S. men's "Miracle on Ice" team in 1980, Warroad co-head coach Albert Hasbargen said he told the boys in the locker room that this was a unique opportunity for a high school team to show what it could do against what is probably the best women's team in the world.

He said the boys responded by "playing in the first period probably the best hockey of their lives. We were all over them. They couldn't make their passes."

The boys' winning strategy was to drive the puck as often as they could to the corners of the rink.

A summary of why women playing men's games tend to play several levels down.

The only reason the WNBA exists is that it is the easiest and cheapest way to distract the Feminazis.

Women's volleyball is the only exception.

Now, let's try this again in basketball. The high school boys will probably outscore the WNBA pros two to one as well.

The possibilities for unrefined comments is overwhelming. :-)

We were all over them. They couldn't make their passes.

Was there really any need for the women to make passes when the boys were already all over them?

There are a great many so-called sports "experts" who are totally unaware of the marked physical differences between the sexes as regards speed and strength. They would be mightily shocked to see how bad many good major college womens teams would be beaten by good boys high schoolers in a variety of sports.

A few years ago some the Williams sisters challenged some male pro tennis player to a match. They had read somewhere where the number one women tennis player could beat all but the top two hundred men players. The guy (a German pro whose name I can't remember) was ranked about 500th in the world. He handily beat both sisters back to back and afterwards bragged about how easy it was.

The article didn't mention the fact that there is a huge manufacturer of hockey STICKS in town as well.

The best women's sports are the ones which emphasize their natural grace and agility, such as figure skating and gymnastics.

The feminazis will now insist that the game is somehow "unfair" to women and find wome way to destroy the game in order to make it "fair".

Many of us old piggies have neer forgotten the travesty that was Billy Jean King / Bobby Riggs. A woman (the best at the time) in her prime against a washed up old man who was never very good to start with - then the feminists and the media declared afterward that women athletically were on the exact same level as men. What a farce!

Women who play sports where helmets are required often have a need to where helmets unrelated to the sport.

"[I]t's refreshing to see the boys have to rely on finesse and skill."

That's something I'd love to see a lot more of.

The WNBA is great for the sale of men's flannel shirts and penny loafers.

LOL! So true. Guys don't need to think about baseball scores to keep themselves from pre-firing. They just have to think about a WNBA game (or a women's hockey or soccer or baseball game) and ... soft city. ;)

I'm frankly amazed that the WNBA has lasted as long as it has. It must be subsidized by the NBA or something.

Equestrian events are also a great leveller, because they depend upon finesse, balance, and sensitivity.

. . . raw courage also.
