My dad's a borderline hoarder. I've told him and my mother that if they don't get rid of at least half of their stuff by the time they kick it, my brother and sister and I will torch the house.
We figure it'll be easier to deal with the insurance company and the arson squad than to clean out 40+ years of accumulation.
LOL!
True, so true.
All our family hoards to some extent - Aunt Nell was just a bit worse than the rest of us. My mom and dad were in the same house for almost 50 years. We got it cleaned out when they moved! The thing to do is to designate a spot for "trash", put a big tarp on the ground, and once a week have a guy with a truck come and haul it all away. Alternatively, you could rent a dumpster.
The thing is, there WAS a lot of nice stuff in there, some of which went to their new house and some of which found its way into the clutter in OUR house!
Hopefully we will sell dad's '62 Studebaker soon - we have three interested parties although nobody's brought us a check yet. THEN we can get the garage organized and have the Mother of All Garage Sales.
But they are clearly saving all that neat stuff for you Xena !!! Where's the looooooooooooove ?;o)
I know of an older lady down the block pushing a hundred years in age that has the original paper reporting the sinking of the titanic and the days / years before and after. She even kept her War Bond Stamp books etc etc and albeit she is very neat their isn't room in that place for a fart to form !
She said she might "need" some of that stuff someday......
