Your statements are beyond ignorant!!
haven't thought of that angle???? What angle??? Do you actually believe that Type 1 diabetics cause their disease???? Yes, Type 2 is usually caused by obesity BUT NOT Type 1. More research before posting should be mandatory.
Have you needed insulin for your diabetes for about four or more decades. The terminology in diabetes is often confusing, but type 1 diabetics usually become insulin dependent before they are 25 years old. They are almost never overweight. Congratulations on your longevity.
OTOH, that is a far cry from the Thought Police breaking down a boy's bedroom door, dipping his hand in jalepeno juice, and saying:
"Try it NOW, you little pervert!"
I think the first ghost will see you at midnight, preceded of course by some Jacob Marley type visit.
Here's a term I just came across, LADA, as in Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) should be less latent.
As a medical professional (in NY, BTW)this bothers me a great deal.
I am outraged. Govt. out of my endocrine system! LOL
I became Type 1 suddenly at age 41...puzzeled my MD,too. Have injected insulin for 24 yrs. I am not and never have been overweight.
It just makes it harder for you to give information you want to give to people you want to give it to.
Bingo. And it also gives the government rights over your health information, which is what NYC is taking advantage of.
Why are they doing this? Because they can.
Or to kill an unborn child.
As I said in my post, "most" diabetes is self-inflicted -- not all. The actual number is somewhere between 90-95%, depending on which research you look at. But even for Type 1 diabetics, if they are relying on taxpayer-funded medical care, it isn't "none of the taxpayers' business" whether they are making a reasonable contribution to the effort to control their disease. Some people get skin cancer even though they are reasonably cautious about sun exposure, and I'd apply the same standard to them: if they take up sunning themselves at the beach, the taxpayers shouldn't be hit up for the cost of further treatment for their skin cancer, even if the original bout wasn't due to irresponsible behavior.
IMHO, Governmentshrinker's previous comment was concerning the Type II diabetics who are obese and living unhealthy lifestyles on the dole. The diabetes mellitus of Type II is characterized by insulin resistance in someone who is obese, but whose pancreas still makes insulin. If they can lose weight, many can control their glucose levels by diet and exercise alone. The remainder can usually control their blood glucose levels by pills alone, at least initially.
If you're not a healthcare professional, may I suggest that you be wary of searching on the net for medical information? I recommend MedlinePlus from the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Good luck with the diabetes.
True, but even if the outcome were good, this is not the kind of power invested in goverment by the founders. They don't have the jurisdiction to be that intrusive on issues that don't affect public health.
I have a 6 year old granddaughter with diabetes...and I am appalled that a CITY feels they have the right to anyone's blood sugar readings...This is ridiculous...diabetes is not contagious...no problem of epidemic.
What?
You've never heard of "Infectious Diabetes"? /sarcasm
WTH are these people thinking??
Looks to me like they're thinking most people will say, "First they came for the diabetics, but I was not a diabetic, so..."
Don't be surprised if the next step is to "monitor" people with hypertension... and then coronary artery disease... and then arthritis... and eventually most "diseases" including, of course, "depression".
That last one ought to really start increasing quite a bit as the program progresses.
how about rump rangers spreading AIDS and costing taxpayers billions???? Huh?? HuH??
Nope. You got it exactly right.
I wish you well. Our son developed Type 1 Diabetes at age 13--which is the average age of the onset of Juvenile Diabetes. But like you said, it can arrive later in life or much, much earlier.
As you know, Type 1 Diabetes is not due to carelessness with weight, generally speaking. I think Type 2 constitutes about 90% of the "diabetic" population, and is more of an effect of lifestyle.
Your post looks reasonable to me.
