"Except that it's against the law to have a gun on school property." And, Lord knows, NO ONE has ever willingly violated the law! The law, sir, is a ass. My father in law recalls going to school with a Colt .45 strapped on and having to hang it up on his coat hook when he got to school. Far from being illegal to carry a gun to school, it was unfathomable not to. And no one was ever shot on school grounds. While those two kids in question were in possession of that rifle they were unquestionably the safest two kids on campus. My old tagline was "The Holocaust was perfectly legal" and I used to have to explain to people that what was legal was not necesarily right. Gun control, even at a public school, is wrong. Oddly enough, I am in the company of liberal Rosie O'Donnell when I say that. See, she applied for a permit for her child's bodyguard to carry a full-auto 9mm Uzi on the grounds of a public school. Of course, she doesn't want YOUR kid protected with a machine gun and she say that YOUR kid is safer when guns are banned from schools. But, for some inexplicable reason, HER KID is safer when protected with an Uzi. Summary: I don't give a flying fig about ANY gun control laws. Anyone who violates them is not a criminal, but a PATRIOT.

first of all, the kids HAD TO HAVE known the rules. rules may be stupid, but they should be followed by minors if possible.

Too many things have happened when one kind brings a gun to school and starts shooting. It might be paranoid, but it's justified. Do the transfer off of school grounds.

Secondly, I know the kids shouldn't have been arrested. Sure the rules be the rules, and they broke them, but it wasn't a hostile situation.

Common sense is COMPLETELY lacking by ALL sides on this case.....

Nearly every day we hear about another child being grabbed up for nefarious purposes.

So, at what age does a person (Child) obtain the right to defend themselves against older and stronger assailants?

Is the age different for boys and girls?

What are they to be allowed, cell phone, knife, Kirpan, knitting needle, base-ball bat, gun?

Molesters and bangers are nothing new.

But when I was in school in the 60's no one cared that I carried a pocket knife, and for a while I started my day with a squirrel hunt, just across the street from my school.

I do not believe that "Kids" have really changed that much, they are still Homo-Sapiens, but I do think we get back the lack of trust we now give them in spades!

I do. Teachers don't surrender their constitutional Rights, nor their Right to self-defense simply because of their vocational choice.

If this girl had common sense she would have done the exchange at one of their homes, or some more appropriate place.

If a passing police officer had seen kids with rifles in the parking lot, this could have easily become a tragic situation.

There was a time in this country when it wasn't uncommon to see a "kid with a rifle" walking down the street.

The point is, if you have a rifle on school property you are violating the law

Which law is that one? One of thousands of federal laws? One of the thousands of federal regulations? State law? County ordinance? City ordinance?

How is it that any of these edicts can trump the Bill of Rights, and how is it than any man or woman can be expected to know ALL of the edicts, and why is this even considered a "free country" anymore?

Lots of kids (aged 13 and up) are mature enough to carry (and shoot) firearms, drive trucks, and even fly planes. Many of them have even fought in wars throughout the history of our nation.

I've been a high school teacher for 17 years and an NRA certified Instructor for more time than that. I spent the last nine years in the inner city. This action by the students was at the very least, felony stupid.

Look, the kids know the score. The police officer at my school was jumped yesterday and beaten senseless, probably by an MS13 gang member. Introducing a firearm into an open and unsecured enviroment like that parking lot is a guaranteed recipe for trouble from every direction. They could just as easily gone around the block and out of sight.

I think a large degree of the notoriety is due to the number of murders committed and attempted. I do believe that the open, acceptable, politically correct vilification of males in our schools is contributing to these kinds of events. I was on a local college campus just before Christmas and found this book White Privilege (among others like it) on the shelves of the bookstore.
