Your post is most salient. Racist comments when said by blacks or browns is excused.

Nagin: You are showing yourself to be a nut every time you open your mouth. Shut up.

I remember some people on this forum telling us he was the best Mayor New Orleans ever had. HAHAHAHAHA. Just how stupid did those people think we were anyway?

I know there are exceptions, but politicians mirror their voters. For people to elect who they elect in LA, they have to agree with them. A few here on FR do not, me being one of them who stuck it out and voted for Jindal, I am now a resident of another state and will never go back. I stuck it out too long and if they don't get off their butts and vote ALL of the legislators out in the next election, really clean house, I know they never will. And they deserve all the misery that comes their way. Voter fraud, some,(in the case of Mary Landrieu) but no excuse people of LA. WAKE UP! It's now or never, and no one will feel sorry for you.

I agee with you about how politicians mirror their base, for the most part. And the people who were defending Nagin on this forum didn't live in New Orleans or even LA, as I recall.

They were just trouble makers who couldn't stand the thought that freepers were finding Nagin at fault for a lot of what went wrong in New Orleans and preferred to try and blame the Bush administration and the feds, which we freepers weren't about to let happen since it wasn't a FEMA problem, for the most part.

Nagin is getting a pass and should resign. Trent Lott had to resign for less.

He should resign. The challenges ahead require someone with a clear head and Nagin apparently doesn't have that.

"I believe that he DID have the conversation. No, really. He did hear voices in his head. Now the VRWC will chalk it up to drugs or stress. Next he will describe the visions. THAT is what I am waiting for. Visions of the poor dead (black) people."

He's really outdone himself today. Every time he opens his mouth something more outrageous comes out. I am in a suburb of New Orleans so I can't vote in the mayoral elections that are supposed to be, last time I heard, in April. Except for a former councilwoman (Peggy Wilson-Republican), I don't know if anyone else will be running against Nagin. No campaigning is officially going on, so it's hard to say what will happen with this important election.

Nothing more reprehensable than using the name of the Lord to suck up to a group of people. He knows that most blacks and liberals (i.e. his constituency) believe that the Iraq war was wrong, and live in a conspiritorial nightmare where white people blew up the levees and the bridges to force them to stay.

He plays to them by attempting to put God on the side of continuing rape rooms, and beheadings in that true nightmare Iraq. So far they have found over 80 mass graves, many of these with thousands of people (men, women, and children) in them. I guess God is on the side of keeping that going?

When will these liberal idiots ever get it right? Of course never. They will never understand that God is on the side of ending the brutality of mass murder and the brutality of religious oppression. This man's religion is a sham and he believes nothing more than a fools view of God.

The real God, the God of the living, the God of the universe says clearly that he hates the hands that shed innocent blood. Nothing more to add to that. He also says that the fool never listens or understands. The wise person hears and understands. Get out before the hurricane hits or you are a fool. Nothing more to add there.

This man is a disgrace. The churches that are out there promoting the continued murder and raping of the innocent in Iraq through their liberal views are a sham. They haven't a clue as to the nature of a just God who hears the cry of the innocent blood from the ground. The king of babylon (Saddam) and his family were thrown out of Iraq by the hand of God working through the United States. Nothing more needs to be added to that.

This man (Saddam) murdered 1.5 million of his own people through a program of genocide using nerve gas and other agents of terror. He also left graves of 40,000 plus innocents in them all murdered by the proverbial bullet to the head execution method. At what point would the liberals think that this slaying of the innocents alone was enough to throw him out of office?

They would be saying the same thing about the trial of Hitler if he had been caught and tried. They love the dictators and their "right to kill" who so ever they desire. The reason is because they crave the same power to run the lives of others.

The mayor of NO is a great dissapointment because he at first appeared to be a different kind of man. At first he appeared to be a sharp man who understood that to go forward in life African Americans would have to let go of the old kinds of leadership and the old "hate whitey" myths they have held to through this or that conspiritory theory. Then the mayor, instead of admitting that he messed up, decided that it is best to seek future popularity in playing up to that same kind of foolishness about how the white man is out to kill the black man.

The sad thing is that it gets any play among the people of NO at all.

I think there should be an organization of white people founded, made up of whites who can go into NO and buy up the devastated property. Let us have a new New Orleans based on racial equality to the extent that personal checkbooks allow. Maybe we should call this organization "The Anti Socialism League." Mayor School Buss, sit down and keep your racist mouth shut!!!!! If you don't want Whites in you city than you obviously don't want our white tax dollars either!!!!!

He's been smoking the same stuff Pat Robertson got into.

Pat at least has the excuse of age for the wheels coming off his wagon.

What's Nagin's excuse?

I heard this "chocolate New Orleans" reported on NBC News tonight, and this is from Bayoubuzz.com

Author: Steve Sabludowsky

1/16/2006 —“Nagin’s Chocolate New Orleans”

Oh, my gosh.

Even if Ray Nagin is playing to an African American crowd during a highly-emotional time, Chocolate New Orleans is not politically correct. And, it is absolutely not good politics considering the Mayor is running for re-election.

According to the Times Picayune, Nagin said, “"We ask black people ... It´s time for us to come together. It´s time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans," Nagin said Monday. "This city will be a majority African American city. It´s the way God wants it to be. You can´t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn´t be New Orleans."

Chocolate?

Then again, that is Ray Nagin.

When he first took office, his own press secretary, Patrick Evans said at that time that Nagin made made him “cringe”.

That’s because you never knew what he was going to say. And, that’s because, Ray Nagin is the “City´s Real Mc Coy. In many respects, that´s exactly what people love and some hate about him.

He was the first major black political figure to question the black infrastructure about its own role in stopping crime. Today he seemed to send mixed messages to a city that is on the brink of failure and possible greatness.

Nagin made controversial statements--especially for a Mayor-- who needs the good graces of the President of the United States for the City of New Orleans, George Bush. He also did not show he was the captain of his own ship. Some might say, that he seemed to take a page out of Franklin Graham and Pat Robertson by saying, "Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it´s destroyed and put stress on this country. Surely he doesn´t approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We´re not taking care of ourselves."

Whether Nagin wants the city to be “chocolate or not, he stayed the course on his message that has given to the black community throughout his administration—even during last year’s Martin Luther King Day celebrations.

"It´s time for all of us good folk to stand up and say we´re tired of the violence. We´re tired of black folks killing each other "

"Dr. King, if he was here today, he would be talking to us about this problem. The problem we have among ourselves,".

Referring to the internal political struggles of the city among the African American community Nagin said, "most of the time tearing each other down publicly for the delight of many."

Yes, “Chocolate Nagin” makes us all cringe. He has some far-out philosophies that others like Robertson and Billy Graham’s son have taken a beating in the media. He says things that blacks and whites applaud but then question his double standard and even his political motivations or compass.

Yet, he calls it as he sees it—whether it be for the better or for the worse for him, politically. He is as colorful as New Orleans can be—assuming chocolate is indeed a color.

God's ways are past searching out -- so I don't know. But PERHAPS God is mad at New Orleans for hosting the decadence festival, for being a hotbed of homosexuality, permissiveness, prostitution, drug abuse, alcoholsm, and debauchery. In the past the mayor has welcomed perverted, ungodly events to New Orleans with open arms, "Come on down, we have great hotels, restaurants and bars -- we are happy for you to parade (literally) your perversions in our streets. Instead of looking to Iraq for the reason, perhaps he needs to start at home.

"A WDSU-TV poll asked local residents about the Mayor’s “chocolate” remarks. Last evening, over 12,000 votes were recorded and an astounding 94% voted that Nagin’s comments were inappropriate."

Wonder what percentage of the 94% were chocolate?
