The problem with this thread is that I reached post #60 and already had about 10 cd's I wanted to pull out and listen to again. And a few I didn't have on CD and would have to make a quick trip to Best Buy to pick up.

"Best Riffs" or "Favorite Riffs" would be a fun list.

Circa 1967, Eric Clapton was "God". Guitar god that is.

In Rock history Hendrix, Beck, Page and Stevie Ray Vaughn were all great guitarists. Clapton was the best and Crossroads is one reason why.

What about Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne? Either Walter Becker or the Skunk.

Going Down by Jeff Beck is one of my favorite guitar rifts. But I think my fav is I'm Going Home by Ten Years After. Saw em live in 1970 at Filmore East; I'll never forget it.

Crossroads from Wheels of Fire.

A damned fine choice. (Cream was powerful and prolific). I'd also submit: "Fire" and "Purple Haze" and "Crosstown Traffic" from Hendrix- Are You Experienced?. Blew me away then - and still amazes me.

This is only proof that they polled people with little interest outside the mainstream.
Firstly, the three best guitarists that ever lived are a) Joe Satriani b) Randy Rhoads and of course c) Hendrix.

I see Rhoads and Hendrix listed, but those weren't even CLOSE to their best solos.
If any of you ever saw Satriani do Flying in a Blue Dream live, you would be floored with his perfection and sound. I've never seen another person play such complexity with zero effort. He can literally carry on a conversation with you while playing very difficult samples (I know, I was talking to him while he did it once at a Workshop in my town).
I recommend to any of you with an interest to watch the G3 DVD he released about a year ago (Just ignore Malmstein and Vai). I think Steve Vai is a fantastic guitarist, but I can't stomach his style.

Rudolph Schenker (Scorpions) is a rhythm guitarist.. Now his bother Michael (of UFO fame) was a lead player and a damn good one at that. He had a flowing, rolling style with that Flying V that I still love to this day.. too bad the rest of the band was mediocre at best.

I recognise sarcasm when I see it,hehe. Yes was a group of nothing but virtuosos,at least the classic line-up----percussionist Bill Bruford, bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, and the great Rick Wakeman on keyboards. (Jon Anderson is strictly a matter of taste-I like him, even if his lyrics are a little fruit-loopy.)
