Denmark has advised citizens against travel to Saudi Arabia, amid growing anger across the Muslim world at Danish depictions of the Prophet Muhammad.
A newspaper that published cartoons of the Prophet, one of which pictured a bomb hidden in his turban, apologised on Monday for offending Muslims.
Islam bans any depiction of the Prophet Muhammad or Allah.
The backlash has included a boycott of Danish goods, diplomatic sanctions, and Islamic militant threats.
The editor of the Jyllands-Posten newspaper told a Jordanian news agency: "These cartoons were not in violation of Danish law but have irrefutably offended many Muslims, and for that we apologise."
'High watchfulness'
The Danish Prime Minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, responded: "It delights me enormously that Jyllands-Posten took this evening a very essential step."
But he again refused to apologise himself, and defended the freedom of the press.
"The Danish government cannot apologise on behalf of a Danish newspaper. It does not work like that... and we have explained that to the Arab countries. Independent media are not edited by the government," he said.
The Danish foreign ministry advised against non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia and urged Danes to be cautious in other Muslim countries.

I was disappointed to see that the publisher apologized. Of course, the EU has turned on Denmark and the usual suspects are out there demanding laws to prevent offending Muslims, who, according to the EU spokesman, are picked upon and discriminated against and can only express themselves through rioting and violence, which is really a cry for help...
Broken Arrow middle east. let the nukes rain down.
Me too. In my wildest dreams I can't imagine a publisher apologizing for any cartoon about Bush or Republicans.
Thankfully the boycott shouldn't hit Danish Bacon.
kind regards
No, I am not exaggerating. Click the pic, go to "last," and read backwards.
If you are not informed about this stuff, you will be made sick. If you are informed, you will be made mad, all over again.
Doesn't this just make you want to get out the crayons and paper and start drawing ugly pictures of Mohammed? And mass produce them and rain them down all over the place.
It is strange to me, apologising for a cartoon to people who cut off other's heads.
The world is upside down.
Can't stand the heat - get out of the kitchen . . . . . . . . MUSLIMS!!!!!
Muslim extremists, much like liberals, think free speech is "Your inalieable right to believe everything I say, no matter how offensive President Bush or his supporters may find it", and recoil at the thought of having to hear a single word uttered against their own beliefs.
I applaud the Danes. Mohammed was no saint, he was a terrorist, period.
"The people of Medina accepted Mohammed's faith readily because it was plain, simple and direct. With their help and with an army of men (yeah, a "peaceful army")the Prophet later returned to Mecca, where he succeeded in converting his relatives and fellowmen (by force). He then sent missionaries to other parts of Arabia in order to convert the entire peninsula to the new faith"

I'm rather sorry the editor issued even and "I'm sorry you were offended" apology.
Of course I'm also wondering whether the Muslims are in 'be careful what you wish for' mode in calling for a UN resolution against insulting religions. Maybe we should back it, and insist on teeth. This way whenever any Muslim cleric says "Jews are pigs" we can deport him and hit his home country with sanctions. (I'm not serious--it would be a abhomination against freedom of speech.)
Still, a blanket prohibition on insulting religions would do a lot more to dampen Muslim preaching than it would to dampen free expression in civilized nations.
This link loads slowly but is worth the wait because all of the cartoons are in English. Just in case representatives of the ROP manage to shut it down, here's another link to another source, but some of the cartoons are in Danish: http://jihadimalmo.blogspot.com/ It's curtesy of Freeper ScaniaBoy.
The difference is that Republicans don't come and burn your flag then cut your head off.
