The problem with this legislation is that it will give the appearance and many of the characteristics of marriage to those who will then use it as leverage to force redefinition (un-definition, really) of the real thing. Marriage is more than domestic "contiguity", but a bonding of souls into a single organism. A married couple remains married even when living apart, whether briefly or for an extended period - this cannot apply to two other human beings who have no real bond other than the benefit of common living arrangements. I would be surprised if FOF is truly in favor of this bill.
Fairy Land is well and alive.I meant Fantasy Land.
Jim Dobson will burn in hell for this.
Pesonally, I think that their politics is starting to become their religion.
Politics and religion combined: the most diabolical force in history. Example: sham trial and capital punishment of Jesus Christ orchestrated by the religious leaders of the time (Jews) and carried out by the political rulers (Romans)
Very surprising and most disappointing.
Of course there are some Catholics working there, it's against the law to exclude them from a secular orgainization like FOTF. But these Catholics are unaware of Dr. Dobson's anti-Catholic bigotry.
I deeply regret not saving the form & brochure they sent me back in the early - mid 90's, because I would just love to poke it under the noses of people who believe I'd lie about something like this. Whether you believe it or not, though, is your business. But I assure you and anyone else reading this post, that Focus On the Family sent me a membership form that said they are not interested in signing up members who follow the Papacy. I have absolutely no reason on earth to lie about something like this, it doesn't serve me in any way personally or otherwise.
I thought this was written by the Onion or something?
What's up, Dr. Dobson?
This statement is pure GARBAGE. I was sent a membership brochure explaining their mission and that brochure included the statement that they are not interested in recruiting members who follow the Papacy. PERIOD.
Here is a recent (2000) statement by Dr. Dobson's spokesman and member of Focus On The Family's BOARD OF DIRECTORS, Dr. Albert Mohler Jr.:
"I believe that the Roman church is a false church and it teaches a false gospel,.. indeed, I believe that the pope himself holds a false and unbiblical office."
When Dr. Dobson himself appeared on Hannity and Colmes in April, 2005, Colmes asked him to repudiate his Board Member Dr. Mohler's anti-Catholic remarks. But in stead of repudiating Mohler's bigotry, Dobson unbeivably chose to defend his outrageous remarks and actually claimed Mohler's comments weren't really anti-Catholic.
COLMES: "You are participating in an event this Sunday, "Justice Sunday." And among those there will be Dr. Alan Mohler of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary who said a few years ago;
'As an evangelical, I believe that the Roman Catholic Church is a false church. It teaches a false gospel. And the Pope himself holds a false and unbiblical office.'
Are you concerned about (his) anti-Catholicism..."?
DOBSON: "Well, first of all, he [Mohler] did not make a vehement anti-Catholic statement. He's a Southern Baptist, for Pete's sake. You expect a Southern Baptist to say that he does not honor the pope in the same way the Catholics do. It's a different theology. Is that not right? That's not an attack on the Catholic Church."
Dobson and his group are anti-Catholic biggots.
It wasn't a form that excluded Catholics. I donated to FOTF a few times and was sent a brochure, (mission statement) by them, and also some sort of membership form for donations and future mailings. The brochure very, very clearly stated that they were not interested in folks who follow the papacy, (obviously Roman Ctholics). I wrote back to Dobson and told him what to do with his organization, and his secretary wrote back to me and politely told me the same. This was around 1994 - 95.
It's a well known fact that FOTF are far out evangelicals who abhor the Catholic Church. Their Board Member Dr. Mohler is a notorious anti-Catholic who unapologetically makes it habit of trashing the Church and the Pope. On the Larry King Live show in 2000, Dr. Mohler said:
"I believe that the Roman church is a false church and it teaches a false gospel. And indeed, I believe that the pope himself holds a false and unbiblical office.
In 2005, Dobson was asked on Hannity & Colmes to repudiate Mohler's comments. Dobson actually defended Mohler's statements and tried to claim these statements weren't anti-Catholic at all. It just doesn't get any more anti-Catholic than that.
For a text of Dobson's incredible defense of his Board of Director's anti-Catholic diatribe, see my post # 71.
Thank you for, Linda, for calling Focus on the Family. There has been a significant amount of confusion and misinformation recently regarding Focus on the Familys position on benefits legislation in Colorado. This situation was escalated by the headline of a _Denver Post_ editorial (February 6, 2006) which inaccurately summarized our ministrys perspective. Were pleased to have this opportunity to set the record straight.
Focus on the Family does support the Reciprocal
Beneficiary Agreement (Senate Bill 166) proposed by Colorado state Senator Shawn Mitchell. However, SB166 is NOT a pro-gay bill, as some have contended it is designed to allow benefits on the basis of legitimate need, not sexual expression. The reason we have expressed support for SB166 is that it is a fair and just *alternative* to a highly discriminatory Domestic Partnerships Act being proposed in the Colorado Legislature.
The domestic partnerships proposal which we strongly oppose is designed to give special rights to homosexuals by providing benefits associated with marriage. It is discriminatory because it limits benefits *only* to homosexuals. Conversely, the Reciprocal Beneficiary Agreement (SB166) would allow any two adults who are ineligible for marriage to access benefits already available by powers of attorney and other contracts. This would aid many family members who are living at or near the poverty level for example, two elderly siblings living together, or a parent and an adult handicapped child. It has nothing to do with sexual relationships.
Providing benefits solely on the basis of sexual behavior is a deliberate attempt to bestow special status on homosexuals. As we have often stated in the past, we remain in opposition to any legislation of this nature. We believe that homosexuals should *not* be treated *unfairly* under the law, but, at the same time, we stand firmly against granting same-sex couples the status of marriage.
We hope this response has clarified our position. Thanks again for getting in touch with us. God bless you!

Will send you additional info later today. Must leave right now.
Please define " trashing the church". As this is a rather " unserious" ( to put it kindly) phrase, it might serve to give an explanation. To use such juvenile hyperbole does not exactly provide any clarity. The organization you are maligning could be characterized as Evangelical Christian. The foundational premise of said beliefs is a Sola Scriptura , post Reformation viewpoint. Do you expect them to view the Roman Catholic leader as you do ? Would you have them declare that while the papacy is not for them, well, hey it might be okay for others ? This is not what they believe. Neither do you apparently believe that they have a right to hold whatever theological position they do. Does the Roman Catholic church believe that they are the true, church? Are others entitled to that same liberty of conscience?
The one with the butchest haircut. I thought everybody knew that.
Perhaps the intent is to show how ridiculous this whole thing is. If two men or two women can be considered equivalent to a traditional family it makes sense that any other group can claim the same status.
ping for later, i read the bill earlier and it seemed to lend itself to the idea that same sex partners would be allowed extra rights... I'll comment later.
I posted the exact quote for you, so that it would be self-explanatory and clear as to what I meant by 'trashing the Church'. When you rise up to the level of moron let me know, I'll post the quote again, maybe then you'll figure it out. Until then, please save your remarks for somebody else.
I am not sure that you even understand the difference between Roman Catholic doctrine and the beliefs held by Evangelical Protestants. Perhaps Jo Kus or a more competent Catholic could explain them to you until I achieve the moron level.
In the year 2000 Pope John Paul II held a spiritual pilgrimage which he called the "Jubilee 2000", in Rome for Catholics. He appointed special Basillica "doors" for Catholics to pass through as part of this great pilgrimage; (these "doors" were also appointed in other Churches all over the world so that every Catholic could partake in the spiritual pilgrimage).
The purpose of the Jubilee was to inaugurate a year of penance, conversion and reconcilliation to God. This 'Jubilee Year' has its origins in the Old Testament, see Leviticus 25:10-13.
But Focus on the Family magazine had other ideas about this great Jubilee Year, and they wrote a pompous little hit piece about it in their friendly 'family' magazine.
First, the title of the hit piece indicates that Catholics need to be "evangelized".
Next they misrepresented the origin of this great "Jubilee" by claiming its origins weren't Biblical.
Then they attempted to subvert the Jubille by sending a partnership evangelical organization in Rome ('Italy for Christ') to "evangelize" these ignorant Catholics with literature, to inform them that the "door" is open any day of a year; (as though Catholics aren't aware of this basic tenet of the faith that Jesus is the 'Door'. John 10:9).
Dobson's pompous, insulting evangelical rag had this to say about the Church's great Jubilee, which drew millions of souls together to worship Christ, (blue italics mine):
"In partnership with Focus on the Family, "Italy for Christ" will be distributing materials to these pilgrims with the message that Christ is the Door any day of the year." (this last sentence is possibly the most arrogant, ignornat thing I've ever heard in my life; these 'evangelicals' were sent by Dobson to 'evangelize' Catholics.
Dobson and his org. are, as I have already proven in other posts, anti-Catholic bigots.
Various Catholic organizations demanded an apology from Dobson's rag for this ignorant, divisive hit piece, and received it from a FOTF secratary, Jane Kristoffersen.
