PORT OF TAMPA TO BE 7th PORT RUN BY UAE FIRM
AM Tampa Bay radio | 2-22-06 | me

Posted on 02/22/2006 5:40:40 AM PST by standingfirm

Tampa City Commissioners voted to turn over Tampa Port operation to P&O, who were recently bought out by thge UAE owned company. This will make the 7th such port to be turned over to the UAE. As everyone knows, McDill AFB is here as well as Centcom.

Rhonda Storm, the only dissenting vote was on the local radio this morning, very upset and concerened about this move.

I also find it interesting the President Bush was visiting the Tampa Port last Friday.

I couldn't find any internet news articles about this yet. I will keep an eye out this morning.

Why is P&O any safe than the UAE? Forty percent of British Muslims side with Bin Laden? ;)

Why don't we decide to either fight this war or surrender?

I have a number of articles here that make me cringe at the thought of UAE having 'anything' to do with us:

Dubai Royals Snatch Up Manhattan Real Estate

But this thread is making me wonder if there are strategies being invested and needed for these port deals:

Jeese, now I'll have to wear flak jackets to the Bucs game. Does Alstott get 72 virgins after scoring a touchdown?

"Praise Allah!"

This sellout is the worst yet. I haven't yet heard anyone explain why congress felt national defense was at stake and blocked China's attempted takeover of UNOCAL but it is ok for arabs to manage port security!!!!!

There are "angry murmurs" among solid GOP conservatives in my part of the country about Bush's reaction to the sale of the ports to Arabs, his refusal to shore up the defense of our southern border against illegal immigrants, and his constant rhetoric about Islam as a "religion of peace".

All of this rankles conservatives, and it may cause the 2008 GOP nominee to break away from the Bush mold.

Perhaps we can implore the Saudis to run our military.

I'm sure that President Bush could find an angle to profit from that one, too.

I think its poor politics

WE GIVE a convicted serial rapist the responsibility of babysitting our 14 year old daughter?

Its one thing to say we trust you to take care of our affairs... but to give THEM the keys to the front doors is ridiculious. They AND their staff will translate this into an opportunity to attack anywheres USA. If not today, then in the future.

IMO

Conservatives everywhere are not only scratching their heads over this one, but many are really upset. Do a search on UAE on this site and you will see a lot.

I like this from the WSJ:

"The story only blew up last week, as a Florida firm that is a partner with P & O in Miami, Contincnatl Stevedoring and Terminals Inc., filed a suit to block the purchase. Miami's mayor also sent a letter of protest to Mr. Bush. It wouldn't be the first time if certain politicians were acting here on behalf of private American commerical interests."

and snip

On Democrats:
"Guantanamo must be closed beause it's terrible PR, wiretapping al Qaeda in the U.S. is illegal, and the U.S. needs to withdraw from Iraq, but these Democratic superhawks simply will not allow Arabs to be put in charge of American longshoremen."

I've heard the statement on FR that there are no American companies that can do the job.

I have to ask this: WHY?

It would seem that this country has created a situation whereby we have gutted our ability to control our destiny.

Even the U.S. citizen over in Afghanistan that killed one of our CIA agents during the early war against the Taliban.

Could you cite documented proof of this?

I still have a MAJOR problem dealing with people that engage in child trafficking and slavery. Doing deals with them makes me shudder. Good reason for me to stay away from working in areas I would have to weigh out issues like that.
