HAS ANYBODY SAID IT YET? BOYCOTT THE OSCARS (Oscars Live Thread)
3-4-06 | freedom4me

Posted on 03/05/2006 1:43:20 PM PST by freedom4me

I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.

I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.

Pass it on...

No. He did not. And since I've misspelled his name 5 times tonight, I hesitate to try again, but I THINK it's Joaquin Phoenix. I loved him in Walk the Line.

I went to North Texas State, where McMurtry was the big deal alum among the English teachers. He's written a lot of great stuff: "Lonesome Dove," "Last Picture Show," "Terms of Endearment," and more. Of course, he's also written a lot of hard-to-get-through wanking. As a general rule, his western stuff is better than his contemporary stuff (aside from "Terms"), and his sequels aren't as good as his originals. If you loved "Lonesome Dove," avoid "Streets of Laredo" and preserve the memory.

I really enjoyed Crash. It was similar in a lot of ways to Traffic, but involved race relations instead. While a lot of the racial issues were sensationalized, it made for a very entertaining and moving film in my opinion and definitely was worthy of Best Picture.

There will still be homos on morning talk shows tomorrow - they just won't be as gay/happy as they would have been if the gay/fag movie won.

Just proves to Hollyweird that the movie wasn't gay enough.

I thought Dances was a good movie.. like Black Hawk not one I want to see over and over because it was depressing, but a good movie nonetheless.

Need I remind you that Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan?

It was good, but a little too "cute" in it's plot contrivances. It was honest about the nature of racism.

Thank God and Greyhound, it's gone.

I don't know why I did this. I never do, but I just brought my laptop into the den and sat here for 3 hours and 30 minutes typing stupid comments about a stupid show.

I'll never get that three hours and 30 minutes back!!!

And if you loved Terms of Endearment, stay far away from The Evening Star.

Crash was an excellent movie. The Academy actually got it right. Ironically, for a movie about racism it was not politically charged whatsoever. Rent it...

Thanks for that info... sounds interesting.

That's gotta be the biggest upset in Oscar history, bigger than "Shakespeare In Love" beating "Private Ryan". I mean, not one person in ten could tell you what the hell "Crash" even is or what it's about.

"Brokeback" was a lock!
