I thought he was spot-on. The Big Stars didn't, however.

Exactly. If he would teared into Bush we would be hearing a different tune this morning. How obvious

I didn't watch, but you know all the liberals are pissed off at John for not bashing Bush. Plus the fact that Brokeback didn't win, and they are feeling pretty snippy this morning.

When Ang Lee won for Crouching Cowboy Hidden Salami, I understood his view of the old west was colored by his San Fran Chinatown experiences. What's Jon Stewarts excuse?

But then he ends with, “I don’t really have a joke here.”

IOW, the (re)viewers were (re)tarded: that was the punchline. Funny or not, he was trying to say that it's all true.

The dullest AA's in history combined with the biggest handful of didn't-see-'em, won't-ever-see-'em movies.

Did you notice how empty the auditorium was? Even with $100,000 gift bags for participants.

Do you think they'll even broadcast them next year? The sponsors must have taken it on the chin.

I think he showed some class last night. And some of his jokes were funny. Very happy that Broken Cowboy did not win last night.

Watched "The Enemy Below" and "M*A*S*H" on AMC; the Oscars mean nothing to me.

The link to the L.A.Weekly will not work.

Maybe their server has crashed -- Too many of us wanting to read "why Jon bombed!" Ha!

Yes, the liberals are really teed off that Jon Stewart didnt pander to the "Hillary for President" lovefest everyone wanted to have.

He seemed like he was deliberately trying to be NON-political and poke fun at the movie industry instead, which is a huge no-no in Tinseltown (unless done by a veteran legend like a Bob Hope).

But this Nikki gal is one EMBITTERED old hag... in another part of her weblog she rails against the stuffy Academy Members who didnt have the guts to watch much less vote for the Gay Cowboy flick, and she disgustedly says that the Academy voters just werent as liberal and enlightened as they think they are.

Kinda like all the hand wringing by the left when Bush won another term.

Gotta go wash my brain out with soap after reading her tripe...

When he said you can't see this many hollyweird types in one place unless you're at a Democrat fundraiser, you could hear the moans. The truth really hurts.

Then he basically called them losers for alwasys voting for losers. He won't be invited back, they'll get Ellen Degenerate next year.

I believe there is a case for that opinion being spot on.

I don't think it went over well with the attending audience. It's probably about as close as we're going to get to an emcee that actually gets it and tells it like it is.

Basicly, he did.

“a lot of people say this town is too liberal…out of touch with Mainstream America…a moral black hole where innocence is obliterated in an orgy of sexual gratification and greed…” But then he ends with, “I don’t really have a joke here.”

OK, that's funny

He bombed because he's just not very funny. Does anyone remember his painfully embarrassing Grammy appearances? People who are said to have "acerbic wit", and a "cult following" are only funny to a very narrow, unimportant audience.

No. He took more swipes at the Democrats. It was pretty funny. But his delivery was too slow, in general. Too laborious for an event like that.
