As far as I'm concerned, they can stop broadcasting the show. The industry love for each other gets overbearing after about five minutes. I don't care about 99 and 2/3rd percent of them. It's just one long garish pig-wallow from my perspective. These people couldn't be more irrelevent.

I tuned in halfway through his opening monologue, and thought he was pretty funny. His Bjork/Cheney joke was very funny.

I tuned out for the night with the first acceptance speech - George Clooney bragging about how enlightened Hollywood was, because they gave a single black actress an award over the Academy's first seventy years or so.

I could have stayed tuned in if it was just Jon Stewart. He's a liberal, but he's at least funny about it. The thought of watching any more humps like Clooney sent me packing.

That was definitely one of his best lines.

I only watched the about 40 minutes towards the end, but not for best movie, director. I thought Stewart was very funny. I thought it was hysterical when he came out and said "ok for those keeping score at home, Martin Scorsese, 0 Oscars, 36 Mafia, 1 Oscar"... too funny!

I don't have a picture of Bjork in the famous dress, but here's a picture of Chuck Schumer wearing it:

After watching Ollie North recap how Hollywood used to go to war, I pulled out some old videos of The Duke - "Green Berets" and "In Harm's Way".

After that, watched Audey Murphy in "To Hell and Back." I gave thanks that I live in America where I can celebrate life and liberty that real men fought and died so that I can be free. I certainly went to be relaxed and happy.

That was definitely one of his best lines.

Didn't see the show, but that was definitely a great line. The original article responds by complaining that he should have come up with a joke for that one... thus utterly missing the point.

The Enemy Below, One of my all time all time favorite movies. I watch it whenever its on. Loved Curt Jergens when he defiantly puts on the record.

I didn't think he bombed. I'd put him ahead of Chris Rock and Letterman but definitely behind Crystal. Actually, I barely remember anything about Steve Martin or Whoopi hosting (and that's fine with me).

FWIW, until last night, the best shot taken at any elected politician was the only funny line uttered by David Letterman the year he hosted: "The foreign film 'Eat, Drink, Man, Woman' is nominated for an Oscar tonight. 'Eat, Drink, Man, Woman'. Oddly enough, that the same thing Arnold Schwarzenegger said when he first asked out Maria Shriver on a date."

Last night's Cheney-Bjork line tops that, IMO.

Wonder if that was a deliberate take-off on Dean's quote about blacks in the Republican party - remember that one? If that was Stuart's intent, I have more respect for him now than previously. Course I don't know how to determine if that's what he meant.

The use of many montages of past movies just accented the fact that this year's crop of films was horrible.

My wife dragged me to a one-woman "Hollywood Review" at a casino several years ago (she had free tickets). The performer did a montage of Oscar winning 'Best Songs' starting from the '30's. I recognized most of the songs up until the '90's, then I drew a big blank.

Let's face it, folks--Hollywood is a lot of things, but it's mainly boring. I don't go to the movies for two reasons: (a) the content leans to the left, but mostly (b) the movies sound boring.

"It would help if the broadcast would mike up the crowd a bit- -the laughter seemed very muffled and distant"

The crowd WAS miked- - - but the sound couldn't get out past all that silicone!
