Your daughter is far better off at home...the home is lots cleaner than the hospital setting...where sepsis lurks.
That said, keep the faith! Your daughter will be just fine...especially since her Mommy is taking care of her bandages.
Prayers to the Lord Jesus for your daughter's continued speedy recovery.
Pinging Lady Doc, I was wondering if you knew how to care for this or may know of any FReepers doctors who may know.
Onyx, I think I recall when your hubby was hurt and he was a doctor. Does he know anything about this type of wound care?
Prayers for your daughter's healing. My sister had an open wound like this on both sides of her lower leg after a carbon monoxide accident. Doctors left it open for months and eventually used skin grafts to close it.
I am so sorry for the change in condition!
Prayers for you and your family. I am sure the docs on the thread will weigh in on this procedure, but I have heard of it before. Letting it stay open for a while lets the infection drain by the body's natural infection-expelling ability (IIRC).
Hang in there, FRiend. We are all praying and pulling for you!
Luke, your beloved daughter is subjected to LESS germs at home than in the hospital. Prayers are going up right NOW for her, and will continue. Say a prayer, Dad, for MY daughter who is having serious surgery in two days, huh? In the meantime, every time I pray for my own daughter, I'll pray for yours.
Once a wound is sutured and reopened due to infection, rarely is it possible to resuture the wound.
It has to granulate and heal from the bottom upward.
The most important thing, by far, is to keep it CLEAN and make certain it does not become reinfected.
When the open wound is healthy with no evidence of any infection and it's beginning to fill in from the bottom, then you may want to consult a plastic surgeon who can make any potential scar disappear.
Keep it CLEAN and call the doctor IMMEDIATELY if signs of infection are present.
Signs include: puffiness, redness, oozing, and just plain ugly looking; possibly a low grade fever.
Thanks for the ping WV MM, and I hope this helps, Luke.
I typed every word he dictated, and yes, he is a medical doctor.

For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal. -Job 5:18
Blows and wounds cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the inmost being. -Proverbs 20:30
What can I say for you? With what can I compare you, O Daughter of Jerusalem? To what can I liken you, that I may comfort you, O Virgin Daughter of Zion? Your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you? -Lamentations 2:13
Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. -Hosea 6:1
Father,
May these trials swiftly pass. May every need be met by your limitless grace and mercy. We ask these blessings for "Luke Skyfreeper", Sara and family in the Name above all names, Jesus Christ.
Amen!
prayers continue
Get your doctor to give you an RX for Silvadene Cream.
My wife is a great RN, and she kept a large jar of this great antibiotic cream for our sons after they crashed into the roads and got some really road rash injuries.
Your daughter's deep wound will be draining the bad stuff out. Your job is make sure another infection doesn't enter her body via the wound site. Silvadene will do that job.
J&J makes ADAPTIC which is a non adhering dressing. Our sons and my wife's patients have used ADAPTIC with the Silvadene for years.
Curad has a new product out which is really good, called Curad Non Stick Pads w/Adhesive Tabs. My wife's favorite is the 3X4 pads.
Her way to treat is the Silvadene with Neosporin to prevent scaring and the ADAPTIC when her patients are basically bed bound. When they start moving around and heading out in public, she has them go to the Curad Non Stick Pads for more protection.
This has worked well with severe burns, post surgical wounds, severe road rash and severe penetration injuries.
Continued prayers for your precious one.
I'm not a medical person, but I think it is correct that she will be less at risk of catching further infections at home rather than the hospital. Of course, you no longer have medical personnel right handy, so please keep a sharp eye on her.
All the best.
Prayers up for your whole family, Luke.
God please heal Sara, Luke, and this whole family.
If it is possible for you to look after her at home then home is the right place. Just try to keep everything really clean.
Thank you!
And RWA: I'll gladly accept prayers or just love, concern and/ or well wishes from people who don't believe in God.
I've been close to being an atheist myself, in the past. But honestly, I think that's gone now.
It's like I really know what the saying means, "There are no atheists in foxholes."
We'll keep praying, friend.
Thank you for pinging me. I hope that helps Luke.
My SIL was sent home with an incision in much the same shape. Follow instructions changing dressings, etc, keep everything scrupulously clean, and avoid introducing any germs. Wash hands thoroughly before and after dressing changes, and dispose of all medical waste promptly (not just in the can, but bagged and sealed).
If you do as they reccommend, you'll likely have no further complications.
My SIL is healed and fine.
Absolutely I will pray for your daughter, kitkat, and hope others here will as well. What's the nature of the surgery?
