Mel Gibson's newest film will be titled Apocalypto and is billed as an action/adventure film set 600 years ago, prior to the 16th-century Spanish conquest of Mexico and Central America.
IMDb gives a short description that details it as "where a man goes on a perilous journey to save his idyllic world."
And some of those that praised Gibson's epic "The Passion of the Christ" may take pause in how he describes this film by slamming the president.

Yeah, I agree with you. Sometimes, conservatives behave like leftists do. We accuse leftists of lumping stuff together: union leaders want their members to be anti-capitalist, pro-abortion, anti- Iraq War, and vote Democratic Party. However, if we look at some posts here in FR, (at least some of us) we do the similar thing.

What do we know about Mel from his journey to make "The Passion"?
He's a man of his own mind and convictions, he speaks freely and without fear and with little regard for what anyone else thinks of him.
Why is anyone surprised about him doing just that again?

The archdiocese of Los Angeles does not recognize his chapel, nor anyone who celebrates Mass there.
Gibson is not in union with Rome in his worship.
Well, the Church never did recognise your fraudulent posturing as a pemanent deacon either, did it?. But, there again, you would probably have gotten away with it in the archdiocese of Los Angeles.
And that is on a benign day, it often seems. There are plenty of days and places, here and elsewhere, where you can disagree with a particular Bush policy or act and be hit with a good number of epithets, depending on the particular policy or act in question, and often as not the least abrasive of such epithets might be "communist," never mind merely liberal. Even as you can concur with a particular Bush policy or act and be hit, likewise depending on the particular policy or act, with epithets the least abrasive of which, often as not, might be "fascist," never mind Bushbot.
And you know him personally to make an assumption like this?

You, my friend, have been manipulated by the writer of the article. I'd hardly call what Gibson said a "slam" by any stretch. A small dig perhaps. But not a slam.
You can't take the characterization of Gibson's remark at face value. You have to read the remark, in the proper context, and characterize it yourself. In fact, it might even help to hear the tone of voice when it was said. Perhaps the facial expression would add to our understanding.
I'm always weary of anything I read from a reporter and choose to hold back a bit, before reacting. I think we would all do well to not hyper-react to everything we read and get some perspective first.
Nor do many Catholics recognize what the Los Angeles diocese does in their worship, which is not always in communtion with Rome!
In one of Mel's tv interviews after the release of Passion he made a joke regarding WMD's.
I can't exactly remember how it went...but I was left with the impression that he felt let down by the fact we were all assured the wmds were there - and a sound reason for war.
Mel is a great guy and a true conservative.
Mel asked Diane Sawyer where the one place in the world no one would be able to find him was. She asked where, and he replied, "Right next to the weapons of mass destruction!"
Mel is so gorgeous he makes my teeth sweat, but I don't have to agree with every word he says to enjoy looking at him( or his work, if it appeals to me).
Re. the chapel he constructed, and how he chooses to worship. How one communes with the Lord only has to be 'recognized' by God.
I attend Latin mass, which is not 'recognized' by the Church I grew up in either. Doesn't bother me a bit. I figure if the Lord heard us in Latin for thousands of years, he won't mind hearing it now. He doesn't mind prayer in Swahili, or Togo, or aborigine either, I would wager.
At any rate, Catholicism has enough problems with pedophile priests to be condemning anyone else. Anyway that is not what the discussion is about. Its about Mel (who has a catholic church that is invitation ONLY) dissing our Conservative leader.
Gibson is looking like another Hollywood flake.
Religious zealots are often flakes, especially when it comes to politics.
Mel just happens to be in Hollywood.
Perhaps with a few more years of this, he'll be rehabilitated.
