Mel Gibson Slams Bush in Interview about New Film 'Apocalypto'
The National Ledger ^ | 03-20-06 | CK Rairden

Mel Gibson's newest film will be titled Apocalypto and is billed as an action/adventure film set 600 years ago, prior to the 16th-century Spanish conquest of Mexico and Central America.

IMDb gives a short description that details it as "where a man goes on a perilous journey to save his idyllic world."

And some of those that praised Gibson's epic "The Passion of the Christ" may take pause in how he describes this film by slamming the president.

I've never figured Mel Gibson for a Republican. More of an isolationist monarchist, perhaps.

Mel Gibson is a Pitchforker.

He's also, in real life, much like his Lethal Weapon character: completely nuts. He inherited that state of mind from his goofy daddy.

"Fearmongering"? What will Mel do next, join Michael Moore in stating that there is no terrorist threat? Say that Bush planned 9/11?

Mel Gibson is a Catholic who has deep concern with some issues. Not all Catholic teachings agree with Bush's philosophy or policies. Some, like abortion, the church agrees with Bush. In other issues, like in war in Iraq, even the Pope has expressed his disagreement. So, I am not surprised that Mel Gibson doesn't like Bush.

Awww...Mel. You had us at the "Passion" and you go and spoil it. We showed you the money and you go and turn on us. I guess we can't trust anyone.

I think rather than ~trust~, it's more acurate to say we shouldn't try to take ownership of anyone. People don't always want to stay in the nice little boxes we try to put them in. Today's Hollywood darling will say something 'independent' next week and be declared evil.

So Mel said some stuff about Jesus people like, now they're upset he's not lockstep about current American Politics. That's just people.

I heard Charles Barkley crying about the war in Iraq on are local news last night. He said something about some people are making lots of money off of this war. What a buffoon!!! I can't believe he ever said he would run for political office as a republican. We have another RINO in are midst. Talk about listining to the MSM. Of course I think he has changed his tune more since he became a t.v. personality. If he ever runs for anything here in AZ, even as a pubbie, he won't get my vote.

Do you think Gibson is against national borders, and believes free immigration across borders is a human right? I think that's the Catholic position.

I didn't want to say it, and there is still more to say that I don't want to say because it isn't fair (yet).

What exactly is Bush fearmongering about.....

Gee, maybe he had the 'bird flu pandemic, store tuna fish under your bed' meme in mind when he said that.

just cause she loves Bush doesn't mean a thing. She is helping to warp the morals of millions of people along with the rest of hollywood and the media.

and we wonder why young people are so screwed up...

It wasn't Bush who said to store tuna fish under the bed. It was my Mormon bro Mike Leavitt.

But then, we store tuna fish under the bed even when there isn't a bird flu threat.

But it's better than expecting the government to take care of you, I'd say.

Mel Gibson is a Catholic who is not in union with the Pope in his form of worship. So, I'm not sure the Pope views him very favorably either.

"The fearmongering we depict in this film reminds me a little of President Bush and his guys."

What a totally STUPID statement.

Coastal, you are quoting from a blog that quotes Time magazine: "According to 'Time Magazine' (sic) Gibson, who insists ideology matters less to him than stories of "penitential hardship" like his Oscar-winning Braveheart, gives this account:

"The fearmongering we depict in this film reminds me a little of President Bush and his guys." "

The respondents on this thread don't even know if Gibson really did say this in the context in which it's being reported. If the responses on this thread are an indication of the type of poster FR is now attracting, we may all be in trouble, Jim. Doesn't anyone research anymore?

""The fearmongering we depict in this film reminds me a little of President Bush and his guys."

A little throw away remark, annoying but not significant, it sure isn't enowgh to put me on jihad against Mel Gibson.
