One of the tendencies I see in this area (I'm a transplant here) is the avoidance of doctors, especially the menfolk. It just about takes a near-death experience to get them to see a doctor.

That might be part of it--or it might be that it was his decision not to seek more help, and being an adult, it would have been difficult to force him.

I noted that he pled "Not Guilty" so it does appear there's an insanity plea in his future.

Thanks for the info. I still am skeptical of an insanity plea. I gather by now he has a lawyer, and the 1st thing the lawyer is going to tell him is that an insanity plea hardly ever works, no matter how bizarre the behavior.

BTW, a lot of people mistake what defendants say at arraignment as being meaningful (e.g., the cable news networks who always excitedly, breathlessly, wait to report on an arraignment like it's news). It isn't. It's just routine procedure for a defendant to plead not guilty at the beginning. It really says nothing about what a defendant is going to do in the future. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen a defendant plead guilty at arraignment.
